Guest Irishguy
Hi guys, I've got a problem that some of you may be able to shed some light on. I have identified my transmission as a TH350 from the pan shape/bolt pattern underneath. It also has the "Peak Bolt Pattern" on the bell housing. On the passenger side of the pan it has Y1B 12D Stamped on it. Here is my problem, on my centre console the gear position plate reads: 1 2 3 N R P. When I engage 1 it drives and then shifts up another gear. I then engage 2 and it shifts as it should. However when I engage 3, nothing. Its as if it has gone to N I then move the shifter up again and it engages Reverse. Park is as normal. Can anybody explain this to me? Your help is very much appreciated, as always. Thanks and Regards, Vic.
kc8oye
your shift linkage is mis-adjusted. when you put it in "1" you are actually only hitting "2" on the trans, that's why it will upshift.. when you get to "D" you are actully in "nuetral" Here is what you do. 1) *BLOCK THE WHEELS* 2) loosen the adjuster on teh cable (I'm not familiar with floor shift) 3) rotate the manual lever on the transmission itself all the way forward to make sure it's locked into park (for refernce) Then rotate it backwards twice. (one click to Reverse, 2nd click to nuetral) 4) place the floor shift in the nuetral position. 5) tighten the adjuster. assuming nothing is worn out, that should take care of it.
