Andreas
Yup, I got the Harwood springs for Chevelle ( ) from Summit. Since the Monte hood is longer and heavier in fiberglass, they barely hold the hood open. You will have to secure the hood with something (I permanently installed a welding rod on a hinge as a security). I also ordered the Moroso hood pin set with the springs. Have not installed it yet, but it is nice and beefy with 1/2" pins... ------------------ 71 Monte 383 "The Full Monty" 86 Monte LS ZZ4 "The Gray Mouse" Andreas' Monte Carlo Site Member NMCOA, FGMCC (Event Coordinator) --------------------------------------- "It ain't a car if it's not a Monte"
Guest
'bout how heavy is that hood, by the way? Cuz I can likely only afford the 4-pin on, and I don't mind not having springs.
Andreas
Can give approximate numbers only: Steel stock hood is around 150-160 lbs, Bolt on fiberglass 2" cowl around 40-50 lbs, lightweight pin-on cowl can be as light as 20 lbs... Guest
Ya cool... I had heard Alan Whitaker (NMCA 9 second '72 Monte Carlo racer) weighed his in at 202 lbs... I assume that's including the spring assembly.

Guest
Quote from Chevy High Perf. This is from the Write up on that Alan Whitaker's Monte. "The Monte hood is 11 inches longer than any other Chevy, and a stock version weighs 202 pounds. Except for the 'glass hood, the rest of the Monte is OEM steel." They are refering to a factory steel hood weighing 202 pounds.
Andreas
I took the stock hood off my car recently alone. I do not think that it is 202 lbs. but I will put it on a scale one of these days...
MeanMonte
Well i tried to weigh mine a while back by weighing one side and then multiplying by two it turned out to be like 100lbs or around, i think this is more accurate than 202 but maybe he had the hindges and spring assemblys like someone said and maybe even a kitchen sink on the scales also hahahhah
