  1. Man, If Steve can do this, I know I can!
  2. Chilled to the bone this morning!! 1 stinkin degree here at 10 am! The garage is a balmy 54 degs and climbimg (radiant floor heat). Got the th350 out, leaving today to pick up my 2004r .It's Ready!! The only thing lacking is the shifter. Shifter works is sending me my new shifter. LED'S are in and look nice! next thing is the jeep steering gear install .Then if I have time, gear drive timing install. Can't wait til warmer weather here. Is there a easier way to upload pictures? I need to do this I guess.
  3. New Shiney -Hiney LED tail lights, new taillight trim bezels.Ordered my exhaust cutouts (Doug's Headers),Aluminized exhaust "y" pipes. Also , 2004r transmission getting built in Denver Pa. at the moment. Once it gets here the work will begin! I do have my '98 Jeep Cherokee steering gear upgrade to install also.
  4. So, it is true. You can't keep a good General Motors Down. Way to Go !! Hope everything is keeping cool Rodney !!
  5. Great work on your ss !! It really will be 1NICESS
  6. The "NEW MONTECHALLENGER" coming to your local Chevrolet showroom soon!! Man, Now that is gonna look Great!
  7. Well, I think I got it. put 670 carb on it this afternoon and runs good to my ears. Not alot of adjustments, not popping back thru carb. just off idle as before . 850 rpm idling, 750 rpm in gear. not sluggish coming up rpm range. I do have it at 1" of vacumn at full throttle now, I will be taking it out on the road as soon as the weather breaks here. But it runs very well. The .037 squirter did the trick I think.Very reponsive throttle now. Time on the road will tell the difference.
  8. Mike,Thanks for the link.will come in handy.Should have new squirter this morning and get the 670 on my car today.
  9. Well,I have disassembled this carb. and am very disappointed . 65 jets in front, 68'S in rear. 031 squirter,10.5 power valve. no wonder it was running lean. After 3 days of wondering what I should do with this carb,I decided to scour the internet for info. What a wake up call ! this carb has had issues since it was put into production. I have made some changes to it. I have taken out the 68's and put those in front. 72's in the rear.I changed to a 8.5 power valve.the squirter will be a .037 tube style as to get the squirt into the center of the venturi. I have since put my 3310 back on it. I am still looking for a replacement front metering plate for this carb because I cannot adjust the fuel mixture screw on the right side(no difference in idle).I did take this apart to find the problem, nothing is blocking that port. stilll no adjustment. stay tuned for more posts as I am nearing completion on the 670 street avenger (waiting on squirter ).
  10. Well, I have not given up yet on this carb. I did find that a plug for the PVC on the front of the carb was leaking vacumn. I noticed that when I was trying to install my vacumn gauge next to it and heard a whistling sound from it (dryrotted). replaced that and reset mixture screws. 22 inches of vacumn at the full vacumn port on front of carb. Now it still has a slight hesitation just off idle, but not to where it pops back thru carb. I think I will go bigger on the squirter size for the accelerator pump. Holley recommends up 3 sizes to start.
  11. Well, I thought it was good-to-go in the garage.I took to work (20 min. thru town 30mph,70mph,45mph).awfull stumble just off idle, had to feather throttle at stop lights to take off. so bad it popped thru the carb. and died in the lane. get to work adjusted mixture screws again(2 full turns out),same thing again. changed vacumn advance to full vacumn port, same results. changed back, re-adjusted mixture screws (1 3/4 turns out). acted a little better. I could take off and no stumble. So,took it down the road full throttle,1st, 2nd,part of 3rd (over 80mph)pulled good thru the gears, slowed it down, got off interstate rolled into gas staton went to leave, popped thru carb.,died. I'm going to put my 750cfm back on and see what that does for it. I thinking power valve not opening quick enough off idle? I'd really like to try and keep this 670 cfm avenger on the motor.
  12. Daryl, My vacunm gauge reads about 18-20 at the full vac.port under front fuel bowel. I also have a 1/2" spacer plate under carb. to run my accummulator tank (brakes). I really do not think I have this much vacumn at idle in park. Cam has alot more lift than advertised. I have angle milled and flat milled these heads to get the 67cc chambers w/2.02in. 1.6exh. stainless valves, 1.6 roller tip rockers and special length pushrods to center the rocker on valves. Should I be checking vacumn in drive? motor seems to like 750rpm in drive,1000 rpm in park. Oh, this is a 355sbc.
  13. Anyone have this on a mild 350? I just threw this on to see the difference from a 750cfm I had been running forever on it.Seems a little better as to throttle response.Have not torn it down to see what jets are in it or power valve yet. Any tricks I need to follow? Edlebrock RPM Air-Gap intake,68cc heads,10:2CR,.490 lift/292deg. hydraulic cam, headers,High output HEI ignition.
  14. Power to weight ratio is the key. that is a impressive motor to say the least. it can take on a big block very well and come out on top. even a "little 383" would do nicely. the torque of a big block with the rpm of a small block. stroker motor is the only way to go.
  15. Great!! now something else to get for the Monte.Sure gonna look purrty up front there. Now I'm thinking Billet Knight emblem.
  16. Steve, Thanks for chiming in on this. I could not remember the Moog number (old age) and wanted to respond, I had a friend go with me to the Syracuse Nat's (Scott), and had commented on how nice my car rode. That was the the 1st time he was ever in it. Definitely the springs for a cruiser Monte!!
  17. I used wide pinstripe to tape off the edge, then a wider masking tape for the rest of the trim. painted it with low gloss black VHT paint. no problems, just spray light coats 'til it looks the way you want it. been on it since '06.
  18. Steve, you may need to put a non -fouler on that plug.it looks like the bottom casing of a spark plug. just threads on and moves the plug away from the piston area. still gets spark to it. I used those to limp home from the track one night.
  19. Thanks guys for the input.I am going to limp along with the turbo350 I have in it right now 'til this fall then it will be changed over to the 200r4.I have 3:42 gears in it right now, 29" tall tire at 70mph running just under 3,000 rpm(2,950).I plan on a billet servo and a Hughes converter to finish it off.It has the good 410 stamped case from what I can see on it.I'll get some more info. on it too.I do plan on taking it to the track just to see what it can do.I am planning track time with the turbo 350 also. Larry,I have contacted Bowtie Overdrives.A lotta info. from them on doing the changeover. Thanks again for your input on this, good to get overall opinions.
  20. I just got a hold of a 200r4. Now what to do? I have been wanting to do this swap for some time now. trans is rebuilt and ready to install. details are sketchy, all I know it is rebuilt with converter,$800 into it. needs dipstick tube, detent cable.
  21. I was not able to power wash mine before putting it up for the winter (salted the roads on Nov.5th) . Now comes the part of tearing down my motor this winter for some up grades if I am going to Pigeon Forge next summer. it's in the arm garage up on stands ready for me to start . I have had this week off and not touched it at all.Got to get that fire burning under me to start working on it . How many days 'til the meet ? Time is ticking away!!
  22. Cory, you are never done...just waitng for something else to add-on. I am in the same boat with mine.(random gallery photo again?). I have a 200-4r, I am thinking of buying the hard parts,(sun gear, billet servo, hardened input shaft, etc.) and having a trans. guy here in N.Y. state put it together for me. I am just debating on what stall to use and if a lock-up style. My cam is over .500" lift so I do need the stall. Has a 2400 stall in it right now,th350,new front pump, shift kit is all. Keep us informed on what they offer you. Then maybe I'll add-on some electric cutouts for the exhaust. Never done.....well maybe then I will be.
  23. Your outer wheelhouses will need some attention.I hope you got the 1970 chevelle outers, '72's do not fit well. '70's need the least amount of attention. you just roll the lip down to your quarter skin, then a 3/8" wide strip to connect the outer to the quarter skin. sounds simple, huh. Anyone with sheetmetal replacement experience can help you out with this. Start with the floorpan first then the wheel houses AFTER the floorpan. drill out all of the spot welds. brace across the back uprights behind the front seats. this is the most critical area before taking out those vertical braces. They will "pop" when you remove the spot welds. realign and clamp these back in before welding in. Are you talking the rear panel that goes up to your trunklid? that is the tailpanel. you will have to find a donor car for that piece. I lucked out and found one in Illinois in rust free shape from a member on here. Your story sounds just like mine when I got it home to look over closely. found rot on the rear floor under the rear seat, holes in the inner wheel houses, pinholes of rust on the outer wheelhouse and rear quarters.new tailpanel, trunklid, quarter skins, floorpan under the rear seat(I used the 2 piece kind) then overlapped my tunnel piece.I should have used the 1 piece kind.(not availible at the time).Feel free to PM me about this. You'll like it when all the hard work is done. No more Rust! Hope this helps some.Good luck and take your time.
  24. Long story. sit ,enjoy,I had the starter go out in Carlisle leaving the Natl's meet on Sunday. drove about 1hr away, stopped for fuel. no start,no nothing. thought it was my original starter relay on the firewall . spent $80.00 on it at the meet, installed it and still nothing. So I did what comes natural.....I crossed the terminals at the starter and it arched like all breakloose and then touched the key, varroom! off we go to get home. 2 1/2 hrs later we make it home and put her in the garage. next morning get home from work, starts right up. Huh? so I take it to Syracuse Natl's a month later for the meet up there. no problems, this isn't right I'm thinking, maybe it was the relay after all, but it still starting fine. got back from there and drop my friend off at his house, shut her down and 30 mins later, no start , no nothing. So, arch the starter terminals and nothing! now I pissed! to get it started I did this again and it started up! off to home I go. get it home,up on jack stands it goes (this is at 11pm on a saturday night),pull the starter. hook up battery jumpers and cross terminals, no worky, thinking its the solenoid after what its been through. Ok, order a Accel high torque solenoid from Summit and a heat shroud from GTO Don on ebay and assemble. get it all nice in the car and nothing, nothing!! No start, nothing. So now I'm really torqured!! I'm thinking this Accel solenoid is no good. I then call on my son to help me. get him in the car turn ignition on, then to start position and see if I am getting power. Yeah everthing is correct. So,I wait til I can see straight again and go to my local autoparts and pickup a new starter. I check it before I disassemble it, works fine. Change out solenoids and works fine. check flywheel engagement, all good, no shims, reassemble, install into Monte, turn key..... works great!! Now after all this I am still curious as to what happened. starter was new on car in '05. summer driving only has only 8,000 miles on it. I did not dissassemble it to look at the inside of it. bad brushes? I'm thinking dead spot on armature maybe? Now has lifetime warranty one on now. lets just see how long that lasts(ha ha). The header just about engulfs the starer. maybe too much heat? I put the heat shield on just because of that. I know, long story. Any ideas as to what went wrong? Your thoughts?
  25. Cory, I just got back from taking mine down to wash it off from Carlisle.Isn't it a great feeling to to drive it! Any other bugs to get out of it? It's been the same here, rain, rain, more rain. Now to go and polish it up nice.Enjoy the "new " ride.Very nice indeed! Larry, nice addition to your Monte.I will be looking at that ebay site. I will be putting in my new HEI distributor and my new stater relay.
