  1. One of the Long Island crew I believe, doing a smokey burnout at a "controlled " drag strip near where they live. Love that car !! You should see them in Carlisle at the Gm Nat'ls sometime.
  2. billet servo, plus better bands and clutches, steelies too . these stage 2's can handle up to 450hp. put one in mine this year and really like the difference at 70mph. no more 3000-3200rpm's. down to 2200-2400 rpm's and shifting back to 3rd feels just like the turbo 350 that used to be in it. motor makes 420 hp (vic edlebrock) base motor setup built by me back in '92.
  3. Look on Ebay . Type in starter shield . there is a guy in Florida makes these out of bendable aluminum . Have one on my car and really works! makes them for Olds and Pontiac mostly. has a part number for chevy starters.
  4. budgets….. we don't need no stinkin' budgets. It's all about the feel of the torque that propels you down the road. Think of Jay Leno testing out "recoil " the '66 chevelle that Ring brothers built. Just a 416cu.in. with a whipple blower and 980 Hp!! with a 6 speed tremec. I do not save receipts on any builds I do,all nonsense .
  5. Never a dull moment when it comes to the Monte's. I am in pursuit of that nasty wind noise from my windows.Plus the addition of the Jeep GC steering box. Then I will tackle the A/C for the ride next year to Norwalk!! I am 80% sure we will make it a mini-vacation. I may have exhaust cut-outs on it too.
  6. Congrats to all you winners out there! Best part of the meet was the line of Montes on Both side of the walking lane. We out did the Impala class which was a accomplishment to say the least. I walked up to the award table on Sunday morning and looked at our winners and was amazed of the turn out from our club. Hope next meet there, "no rain" , and a great weekend to be had by all.
  7. What he said !!
  8. Great Find! That is surely a loaded Monte Carlo. Yes ,Pictures would be great! Maybe you could send them to someone here on the boards through email and they can get them put up here.
  9. That is why Hurst was the shifter to have back in the day,and still is today. I raced a '65 Chevelle with both shifters,Hurst hands down way to go.
  10. I just put my rear axle UMI upper arms on and tightened everything down in the air, then got it on the ground and loosened it all up again, then torqued it all back down .there is some preload on it when it was all loosened up,as the car did settle a little more. Now upper and lower match.
  11. Finally!! I have overdrive!! It took a little longer than I expected , but it is all working well now and well worth it. Dropped about 800 RPM'S at 70 mph. Shiney Hiney tail lights installed. Rear trim piece from Cory installed, can you say "frosted" (looks nice). This much closer being ready for Carlisle! Just one more thing to add and won't tell 'til I get to Carlisle!
  12. I have finished most of my list of things to do . had to change spark plugs again though. had a wire not contacting plug, and fouled it out , new set going in . overdrive transmission is now working.
  13. I did not use my stock gaskets, I used the ones supplied. I was careful to tighten evenly around the tail light lens. I have some new grilles for these from the Parts Place , but they do not fit my stock lenses. I need to see if they have lenses that fit these.
  14. I have just put in the tail lights and have used a variable rate electronic flasher (w/ground wire) to replace my stock one. My question, the lights when turned on tend to flutter when looking at them up close and they flash quick when turn signal is on. Is this normal? I do like them for the 3 quick flashes for the brakes, but wondering what I can do for the flutter when turned on. I am using the regular ground wire from the stock wiring. Should I tape off the steel plates that sit on the tail light fixture? Is it a ground problem?
  15. Bruce, sent you the info (PM) on the tilt wheel. Hope this works for you.
  16. Just got some pictures from Cory, gonna have a few surprises on the Monte this year. Can't wait for it!
  17. Google tilt wheel loose on chevelle. It will take you to a write up on ground up ss396 site. follow it to the "t" .worked well when I did mine. I put thread locker on those bolts,no problems for 5 years now.
  18. Flywheel to crankshaft bolts 60 ft.lbs (if using ARP, torque to their specs) Pressure plate bolts 35 ft. lbs. Bellhousing bolts 25 ft. lbs. Specs from '70's GM manual
  19. Pledge works the best on your vinyl interior parts.Just sray the wipe cloth, not the panels. Gives it the "original" look. works well on your vinyl top too! And nothing on your steering wheel, ever!!
  20. So, Just what is "the blue stuff"? It looks like it is coming along nicely. looks better than what started off with.the rear pan under the rear seat was toast. so a new pan was put in. And also, what epoxy primer/paint are you using? I was using DP 40 and DP 90 from Dupont on my frame and Herculiner on the underbody (to protect it ).
  21. We are on the same plan with Dan's motor for his '89 chevy truck. short block is done ready for his "blower" cam . Have to dial his in as to have more bottom end torque to move the behemoth weight of his truck. he is using a 496 kit and will have his 6-71 blower on it still. Any chance on selling those wrong head studs?
  22. Looks great!! 650hp, not bad for that "small" motor. sounds mean too! Looks like your going to have some fun at the track. Maybe we could have a side by side race with you and Alex from the Sapranos crew at the Gm Natl's this year. They have a track not too from Carlisle.Pa.
  23. Man, If Steve can do this, I know I can!
  24. Chilled to the bone this morning!! 1 stinkin degree here at 10 am! The garage is a balmy 54 degs and climbimg (radiant floor heat). Got the th350 out, leaving today to pick up my 2004r .It's Ready!! The only thing lacking is the shifter. Shifter works is sending me my new shifter. LED'S are in and look nice! next thing is the jeep steering gear install .Then if I have time, gear drive timing install. Can't wait til warmer weather here. Is there a easier way to upload pictures? I need to do this I guess.
  25. New Shiney -Hiney LED tail lights, new taillight trim bezels.Ordered my exhaust cutouts (Doug's Headers),Aluminized exhaust "y" pipes. Also , 2004r transmission getting built in Denver Pa. at the moment. Once it gets here the work will begin! I do have my '98 Jeep Cherokee steering gear upgrade to install also.
