What might this car be worth?
420ponies replied to LS65Speed's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I think it's all about the buyer with these cars. You could put a price on it you could live with and always come down on it too. It's in Atlanta with lots of high horsepower rides there. Finding the right person to buy it is the tough part. Might find one around the dragstrips in your area or at a car show or cruise-in. E-bay it and you could set a reserve on it. You've also have to let them drive it (tough) ,or to understand the horsepower to weight ratio. That motor should make 425-450HP with a lot of torque with 3:31's in it. Nice ride, I'd like something like that ,but I'm still after my '65 chevelle build and that's my ticket for my Horsepower ride. -
How cool is that!! Awesome to see him actually looking at a Monte Carlo. Great job!

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?
420ponies replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Well, this year I have to put mine away in a storage unit . Not too far from the house ,so I can go and "check" on it from time to time. My friend has other ideas for his pole barn this year so that was out of the question. 10'x20' $90.00 per month, rent it by the month. Will have it back here in April-May. Going to try and get a couple of things done (steering box, carburetor) before Carlisle. we are close to the half way mark for the meet. -
To Vortec or not to Vortec, that is the question
420ponies replied to phils72mc's topic in Engine Tech
I believe you need to machine the spring pockets down for higher lift cam. Bee Hive springs are a must (Comp Cams). They would also have the roller tip rockers for them. It's a nice set-up. I think full roller rockers would interfere with the valve covers. I'd call Competition Cams tech. line to find out. -

I have a set of reworked 882 iron heads on my 355 zero deck,2 valve relief pistons, 68cc chamber with 2.02/1.600 stainless valves with stellite exhaust seats, so you can run unleaded or leaded fuel(racing gas) Bee Hive springs and 1.6 ratio roller tip rockers, screw in studs, bronzewall guides, 10:2 to 1 compression with a .041" Felpro gasket. I have always wanted to got with aluminum heads from Edlebrock. "The kit" includes the Air Gap RPM intake (which I run). I think my heads work just as well, since they are a copy of Vic Jr's heads he did back in 1992 on a 355 cid small block that produced 420ponies. I think you should go with the Vortex heads, They're have been some people on this site (Robyn Lance in the home page, our archives) that have made some good torque from this setup. That cam you have in mind would work great with those heads. Torque is the name of the game. I'm stop thinking small block 427! but the motown block is the kicker! (pricey) I could always go 383 wth the block I have. And don't worry about 2 bolt mains, 6,500 rpms all day long. -
Your horn wire should have 12 volts coming from where it mounts. the plate should have a spring in it so when it is pressed it "grounds out" to sends 12volts to your horn. doe you have the center piece for the horn?

Your "brake light " switch is connected at the brake pedal assembly. it either needs adjusting or is bad. it is a plunge style switch. "button" push brake pedal, brake lights on, release pedal lights off. this switch is adjustable. Also, your proportioning valve down on your frame below the master cylinder also has a wire connected to it (brown/white?) , make sure it is plugged into the top side of valve. it has a pin coming out of the top of it. could be broken off. When I finished my restoration my switch was hung up in the "on" position, person at a car show let me know my brake lights were on after I had left my car sitting. a little adjustment of that switch, all is good.

What to do on floors and back seat tray ?
420ponies replied to 1970MonteCarloNH's topic in Interior Tech
Always re seal seams with new seam sealer first.Epoxy primer then Herculiner on the rest. Dynamate the rest. That will last longer then you will own it ! -
I would suspect a long hill, towing something it couldn't, and maybe low on oil at the time. Probably overheated too. Cylinder head is banged up for sure, good for parts only. 6.2L would be a good build motor. 650 hp out of some of these with the right parts. I'd stick with your 6.0L easy to make power and they are lots of them to choose from.

I have the "Doug's Headers" style on mine. 2yrs and no problems. I had to wire one backwards to work because of fitment under the car.

Congrats to all of the winners!! Looks like a great showing of the club! -
As Ace Ventura (Pet Detective) would say, "B.E.A.--UTIFUL !! I bet that turned some heads while you were driving. Best color combo for that year. Great job Darren .

If you want to seal your floor, Herculiner(yes, you can use it inside too). Sound deadner and sealer of the floor.make sure you cover up what you don't want it on. then the dynamat or equivalent. there are different brands with different values. They also have "Lizard Skin" .spray on sound deadner. I'd use the mat for the quietness of the material. I have only the back half of mine done with dynamat behind rear seat and up to the back of the buckets. very noticeable improvement to the ears.

Nice job! looks Great! Love the triple Black Monte's

Make sure he installs Stellite valve seats on the exhaust side. that way you can run unleaded and not ruin the valves/valve seat . I'd also invest in some roller tipped stamped rockers like Comp.Cams sells. Easier on the valvetrain. Your going to have some money invested but remember, it's not miles per gallon, it's smiles per mile !!

Lookin' good !! Welcome to the madness! What color is that ? I'm going to be following you on this build.

I'm liking it !! May just be one ordered for my Monte

looks great , but how does it work on the console? Oh I see it goes into the ash tray. I'll have to get us one. -
Footballubet did a great write-up on how he did his. I used 2 engine hoists, 1 front ( where fenders bolts too) ,1 rear (bolted thru bumper bolt holes in trunk). and then concrete blocks and 4"x4" s.

Steve, try Lutty's in our parts resource on our website home page Part #: RSDG10030971 $229.00 I believe is the price. They have a section just for Monte Carlo's. Very good to deal with too. They might be at the Chevrolet National's in Carlisle too!
