Ditto on that Sam!! cut'em, your replacing them right? Then I'd use a transmission line wrench on the new ones. Any parts store or Sears would have the wrench. You only strip them once! InLineTube.com has some nice Stainless Steel ones to replace them with. I think I paid $45.00 for mine.

This lookin' sweet!! I may need you to come down and help with my '65 Chevelle. Like that cage work. nice and tight to the body. Gonna be one mean Monte!! I like that it is a '72.

Doing this for my '65 chevelle. Best way to do it is to use a piece of cardboard.measure and rough cut it out then slowly trim it up to fit. I also do a measurement diagonally ("x"), to get my overall width. You can also cut the edge for a lip for you too either weld or rivet in the piece of sheet metal. Just cut one side of the cardboard an you will have a flap for the lip. I'd ask maybe a Home Depot or a Lowe's store. They have plenty of this stuff to use. I also used this for my Pro-Street wheel tubs. It saved me some headache there too. Hope this helps you out.

The transmission will need some upgrading done on it too since the big block has more torque. plan on going thru it with new clutches and seals. A 2500 stall converter would be good also. Gearing will need to be right also 3:42 to 3:73 preferred if a 10bolt housing

1970 - Monte Carlo Convertible, LS6, M22 - Build

That will be the beauty of it when it is finished!! I could not see you selling it after the transformation. It would be a heartbreaker if I had to sell mine after it was finished. I just keep doing different things to it along the way now. Just about got it finished the way I want it now ....and that was 8yrs ago!! ....go figure. -
I used triple 0 (ultra-fine) scotch brite pad and cleaned with lacquer thinner, then let dry and shot some self echting primer on the painted part, then used low gloss black.

Now that is some great reading! I now have a hankering to make up my own mighty mouse!! 511 ft lbs Trq. will make your Monte move for sure. Those kind of Dynos are the only ones to trust!! We have a engine shop here MarolloRacing Engines, Pine City, N.Y.) that has one like that ,and can handle 1,500 HP. Blown Tractor pull engines are his specialty. I hope your transmission is up to the task of handling all that torque. Hope to hear about it if your going to the Eastern meet in Ohio. Now, where did I put that sbc 400 block........hmm

I have a little surprise from my Monte for the folks comin' to the mini-meet in Carlisle. let's just say it will have a little attitude. -
I've seen those mounted off the master cylinder on some custom trucks. made a bracket bolted to the master cylinder bolts and positioned just under the master cylinder. That may work in your case.

Casting Call for My Monte

Well Mr. Hollywood, How did the shoot go? The members in the club are waiting to hear....... -
I bought new replacement springs on mine Tony, and cut a coil and half (same position for fitment) and dropped it 1 1/2". You've seen mine, I like the stance. Some say it sits to low, its a "California look" as they say. p235-60-15 on the front.

My opinion, put a overdrive transmission in it. A 200-r4 would be a great addition to it. mine was a turbo 350 with a 3:42 ratio 10 bolt post traction. 70 mph at 3000 rpm, O.D. transmission 200-4 ,dropped it to 2000 rpm. put it back into 3rd and right back to the 3000 rpm. the change dollar wise was about $1,500.00 with converter (2000 stall) ,but you get a warranty with the transmission. to check your gear ratio, take the cover of the rear end, count the pinion gear teeth, then the ring gear and divide and that will give you the ratio. I believe that it is a 3:73. That gear will work well with the overdrive transmission. You could go with 700r4 but the first gear ratio would hurt you.

First thing I'd look at is to see if your float is saturated with fuel. it could have been adjusted when saturated and now float bowl running out of fuel. How are the rubber fuel lines? are they soft? could be closing on you when at full throttle (one before the pump).

Went and picked mine on Friday.Put the battery in ,primed the carb, off she went!! All good except for a small area of Mice droppings on top of the radiator cover! you know the one with the FGMCC on it! Yeah I'm still looking' for the little rascal. Had bounce sheets all over the car. have not located any more evidence of it being anywhere else in the car. -

Well, My Monte is getting kicked out of it's winter resting place this weekend. Friend at work is going to have some construction at his house and we won't be able to get them out until it is finished. Plus he needs the room for their tools also. 4 cars are parked in there. Mine is the last one out so I have to wait for the others to clear out .Going over today and put the battery in and get things ready to start. I still have the frame for my '65 Chevelle in my garage and have to get that moved out so the monte can rest in the garage oil it gets a little nicer here. The weather I believe is going to break here for good next week. still showing cold temps and snow in the forecast so they will be putting down salt still. -

Wheel, I bet they just love to here those side pipes when you start her up to go somewhere! Looking good from here! Must be glad it's "back on the road again" ( song from REO speed wagon). That was a name of a car too!! The wife just enlightened me!! That's what I like about her. I can't wait to get mine out soon. Going to be putting on some exhaust cut-outs on it this year. OH Yeah!! -

Man, that is going to look good!! I have been following this build and am very impressed with it. going to be nice when it is done. You going to use those wheels? -
Ditto!! never on the balancer. It can be done inside the engine bay. I did mine that way, just after I had the trans. out . I had the front and rear of car on jack stands. The front up higher then the rear. the hoist under the car(you will be surprised how much room you have for it) and raised it up higher then the mounts, then rested it on 2x4's too.You should have enough room to remove that pan. I will let you know that clear sealer will work well after you put the gaskets back on. then you can cover it all with paint.

Very nice Jared. Green with envy!!
-
That looks so nice!! Maybe I should change mine over. Anyone looking for an overdrive transmission (2004-R) ,2200 stall converter ,less then 1,000 miles on new rebuild? I think I still have my 4 spd pedals from my '65 Chevelle.

It would be interesting to see yours and Al's toe to toe in Carlisle. there is a dragstrip not too far from the "meet" .Something I'd like to see!

I saw the heading, thought you were talking about something "totally different" I know... I know ..... keep it respectable!.
