SBC 400 and steam holes...................
cny first gen 71 replied to NavyCPO's topic in Engine Tech
I've heard both, it will cause problems and it's fine to run with them plugged. I personally think they are there for a reason and would never modify the block to plug them off. I was told that I can drill the heads out if I decided to use them on the 400 instead of the 350 by the guy that built them. They are aluminum so will drill out easy. I'm probably not going to end up using them anyhow but not sure yet. I definitely wouldn't use jb weld on the block holes. Just my opinion. -

The sb 400 that was in my 71 caprice was a 2 barrel also. -
Somewhere here there is a breakdown of that info, maybe Aaron or Joe can help find that. Looks like a pretty cool car and nice find too, welcome to the site.

1972 MC 350/Auto - Power Steering Pump Replacement

I think if you get the jeep box you'll have to get hoses made because the fittings are different. I would try and get new as opposed to rebuild if it was me. -

Thanks Jim, but I know I'm going to fine all kinds of stuff in there that needs to be replaced. To my knowledge the dash has never been out so if everything is original who knows what I'm going to find.

Yea my gas guage problem looks like it turned in to more of a nightmare than just the sending unit. It's still apart but that's a back issue more than anything else. Talked to Joe the other day and thinking it may be something up in the dashboard possibly a grounding issue or something. So that'll have to wait for a while so for the time being I did all this and still don't have properly working gas guage, looks like it's going to work from about half tank down so guess I'll keep track of mileage for a while longer. Getting into the dash scares me because of the dreaded snowball effect. I'm sure that's going to happen there 😆

Raining a little bit today too,had to run out to store saw a couple guys mowing in the rain, another guy was using a weed Wacker to mow his lawn, not just the trimming but doing rows in the yard. He was about half way through his yard. -
They do have some, not in store but you can order them online.

Oh yea for sure, just sitting at the entrance/ exit when cars are coming in or leaving is a whole nother show for sure. Where I camp you can see cars coming in in the morning I'll just go sit by the gate for a while. It is a different experience camping there too, definitely get to see and hear more and the bands that play in the evening are pretty good too and I don't have to worry about having to many of my favorite beverages because I don't have to drive. Great times for sure. -

Also registration for the show now $55.00 is after june 1st it goes up to $70.00 so if your sure you are going it's better to register earlier. I'm already registered fir the show and have my camping spot reserved. Looks like they have more vendors for this year and food is always good there. -
That's a long way from NY but I bet the weather is much better down there than here.

cny first gen 71 replied to Canuck's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
Haven't been able to work on mine because my back is really hurting but my brother (a fird guy) just became a monte carlo owner, not a first gen but a 2001 low mileage well taken care of from original owner and an ss to boot and got a great deal on it. So I got a first gen and he has a last gen. No pictures yet. But he did get his roadster out of the box from it's winter nap. -
Most of that will buff right out 😅

Very nice looking car, congratulations!

Looks and sounds great, make sure you double check all the vacuum lines and the check valve on the booster.
