Unfortunately this is the world we live in now and it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. You gotta be careful with everything you do now days. Looks like something is a little twisted up. Has the car ever been in an accident? Possibly someone replaced the tail panel with a used one after a fender bender? Probably can't see it until you open the truck.

Go to a good body shop supply place they can do whatever you want. Just be ready to bring your credit card, paint and paint t supplies are sky high.

It's not 12 volts to the sending unit, I fried one doing it that way. Don't remember exact voltage maybe 7.
