  1. Here is a link to the entire group of pictures and descriptions I created about the snowball effect a simple heater core replacement can turn into if you let it. Things like "GROUND WIRES" and headlight switches are included as are several other things I worked on. I hope this will help. https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/2019/04/26/heater-core-replacement-on-a-1971-monte-carlo-no-a-c/
  2. Great write-up MG, thank you!! I have an issue with my stock 71 where the gauge will slowly move slightly F to E when I am driving and the tank is not full. The gauge is steady when I stop or am driving straight and steady. I'm sure it will fail some day and I will refer to your great write up for direction!
  3. Years ago (about 35) I purchased a used 71 Monte Carlo with 350 4BBL all stock, like my 71, because it had a stock gauge package instrument cluster that I wanted. To swap it, I removed every wire harness from under the dash, out to the radiator, over to the battery and all the wires on the firewall, and all the way to the starter. From my car, then from the car I bought then put it into my car, got it running and working well. Then I took my old everything and set it up into the car I bought and sold it. When the buyer came, the engine wouldn't start because of a bad starter. I lowered the price and it was sold. I don't remember the costs involved but around $700.00 sounds familiar. I can't find any pictures, perhaps they are still only slides...
  4. Interesting! Your question made me wonder if there is a difference in the "link length" needed for a 7/8" front anti sway bar vs. a 1-1/8" front anti sway bar? Many years ago I bought a 1-1/8" to replace my 7/8". ( think I have the longer connectors)
  5. Remember to unhook the shift indicator wire from the column before you lower it or it WILL BREAK!!!
  6. I only drive it when the weather is nice, Spring. Summer and Fall about 1,100 miles each year. I now have about 168,000 miles on my 71 Monte and can't wait to drive it this spring!
  7. I have only had one, the 1971 I ordered in 1971, when I was a senior in High School. Very happy I kept it and still own it after 53 years, 8 months, 27 days. (as of today)
  8. Welcome Shawn! We do like pictures!!

  10. My 71 350 4bbl had one of these restrictors, until I added dual exhaust, now it only has a donut. This brought the front right (passenger side) pipe up a bit but no problems. I must have thrown it out because I can't find, it and didn't take a picture of it. 🥲
  11. Welcome Randy! We love pictures!
  12. Way to go everyone!!
  13. Jonathan, welcome! What's ya got???

I ordered my 71 Monte Carlo from FOX Chevrolet in Rochester, Michigan and it was built in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, Apr 27, 1971 and delivered to FOX Chevrolet May 12,1971. Good Times!!! Yes, I still have it.
  15. Have you tried this FaceBook page, to find your old car? https://www.facebook.com/lostmusclecars
  16. This is a picture of the steering column on my 71 Monte. I believe, on my 71, the flasher in the fuse box is for the 4 WAY emergency flashers, while the Turn signal flasher is attached to the steering column on the left side, so we can't see it in this picture. I will look for more pictures. Can anyone verify what I wrote about the 4 WAY vs T/S Flasher location??? The 4 WAY flasher can handle all 6 flasher bulbs where the T/S can only handle 3. 1 in each front and 2 in each rear so they are different.
  17. One more from my 71, transmission right side :
  18. I found this, don't know if it helps or not. I think it's for a 71 350 like mine.
  19. We will see!!
  20. My oldest Grandson in 2010 and 2023 when he started driving.
  21. Best picture I have of my 71 Column shift Monte Carlo shift indicator cable.
  22. Yep, just push and hold the tiny button and pull out the headlight knob and shaft. To reinstall, just push the shaft and knob assembly back into the switch.
  23. Spring loaded button on my 71 Monte Carlo: It is very small.

    Anniversary

    Congratulations!
  25. Picture from my 71. I think the black wire with the narrow metal section is that ground from my 71, from the HL Switch. One of the ground wires, from the dash, attaches to a small screw on the parking brake assembly. Can't find a picture showing large ring section that attaches to the switch / knob area.
