Cool!!!! My 71 was built in Canada in April 1971 first numbers match mine.

I was going to suggest you remove all the belts (2 or 3) on the ft of the engine and restart it. I'm probably way off but it's free to try it.

I remember when I had to hit the starter mtr with a hammer then it would start. Turns out the brushes were worn out, so I had them replaced. Years later I did have it rebuilt and as of last week, it still cranks. (I hope I didn't just jinks it) I am a stock kind of person, don't care for aftermarket stuff.

Air conditioning question

I added a smaller spring to the inside of the stock springs. It helped but was not perfect so I add a copper pipe whenever it's open to prevent injury or damage. One time the wind blew the hood open more and the pipe fell out chipping the paint a bit on the top edge of the fender. I need a longer pipe!

I plan on purchasing a set (I was told they sell by pair only) from CARS Inc. as soon as I feel like it. (Too lazy this year) I can drive to their location it's not far for me, about 9 miles. 2600 Bond St Rochester Hills, MI 48309

You probably know this but, A/C is different than NON A/C.

I almost threw out the restrictor on my 71 350 4bbl Monte when I changed all the hoses. Here are 2 pictures: My 71 was built in Canada.

Yes, I bet that is how she looks now! Good find.

I remember purchasing some new bulbs, both 1156 and 1157, for the taillights, and the outside base diameter of the bulbs were way way to small on some, so they wouldn't stay connected and flickered. Junk import stuff........

I am writing a list of all the things I have done to my 71 Monte Carlo and remembered an oil leak. I had already rebuilt the original 350 engine and had driven it about 10 years when an oil leak started from the vibration damper. I assumed it was the seal, removed the damper and then the timing chain cover. I cleaned everything up and noticed a groove worn into the shaft of the damper from (I assume) the seal. My brother in-law Tom Langdon had a Harmonic balancer repair sleeve, so I put the balancer in the freezer, heated up the sleeve and installed it, replaced the seal and put it all back together. Anyone ever have to do this? Fast forward to today, my engine is leaking in the rear and the trans is leaking on the left side. Oh no........................

Package shelf material removal
stangeba replied to Tonka Man's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
If this is of any help, here is my old tray, from my 71, removed. My old neighbor made me a new one with the material of the day that looks like scotch brite, that is still looking good. -

What, if anything, has changed? Ground wire (hanging down on the right)is critical. I think there is another ground but I can't remember where for sure but there is one that attaches to the parking brake assembly. Here is a picture of my instrument cluster, from my 71 that has the gauge package. Also, here is a hot link to many more pictures with text that I took when I replaced the heater core in my NON A/C 71 Monte. https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/1971-monte-carlo-no-a-c-heater-core-replacement-pics/

Mystery Object on Back Seat
stangeba replied to Tonka Man's topic in General 70-72 Monte Carlo Forum
I ordered Deluxe safety belts for my 71 and it came with the belt holders. I believe the standard belt buckles were black plastic and not stainless like mine. -
Thanks for the photoshop picture. No thank you.

When I replaced the heater core in 2009 I replaced the heater hoses and coolant. It has been 15 years and 18,000 Miles. I just jinxed it..............................................
