  1. I remember when I converted my original incandescent headlights to the modern halogen headlights on my 71 Monte. It was a major improvement. (I still use them)
  2. Info from my 71: I think I remember 3 wires going to the two rear speakers. One ground, one for left and one for right. In 1996, I replaced my original AM/FM stereo with a new Radio from Custom Autosound Kenwood 800 Radio $422.94 from Classic Car Radio Co. Speakers from Best Buy $60.34 Front, I think. I also replaced the rear speakers but can't find the info for them. I did NOT have to cut open the dash to make it fit, it fit great. The sound is not great but I like having a CD player in the trunk so I don't have to listen to commercials. I here there are fancier radios available now that hook up to your cell phone. Here is my original radio.
  3. I have a few.
  4. In Michigan Sept 3, 2003, I was able to register a 1971 Lic Plate and pay a one time fee for life. I don't know if Michigan still accepts this.
  5. Welcome! Nice looking Monte!
  6. A bit off subject but a lesson worth hearing. (I think) Don't use solid copper spark plug / coil wires with Pertronix or it will fail. Now I know nobody uses them for decades but if you have a real old vehicle with copper wires, remember this. I think Copper wires last for many decades..... I still have stock points and condenser in my 71 and just saw that I have two sets of points and one condenser in my glovebox.
  7. Here is a picture of the rear speaker grills from my 71 Monte Carlo built in Canada. I didn't know they were different than the 1970 version.
  8. Thank you! Happy when I can help.
  9. Many years ago I had to replace the heater core in my 71 (NO A/C) Monte. I put this picture collage together showing what I did, called the snowball effect, not much about the insulation, I think I just pushed the pins into the firewall, and I don't remember where I bought it from. With or withOUT A/C is important. I hope something in this group of pictures will help you some. (Click on the hot link) Good luck! https://1971montecarlo.wordpress.com/2019/04/26/heater-core-replacement-on-a-1971-monte-carlo-no-a-c/
  10. One thing about the fuse for the dash lights, it's the tiny one at the bottom, (INST LPS) on my 71 Monte, and if testing with a "test light" or volt meter, the headlight switch needs to be pulled out at least to the first "click" before power will go the fuse. If you do then get power to one side of the fuse, the other should also have power if the fuse is not blown. There is a resistor coil that you turn to "DIM" the dash lights. I have heard the coil can get corroded and it may take repeated rotating of the H/L switch to clean it. Since you haven't changed anything lately, that makes it tougher. Good luck! The H/L switch in my 71 is shown in the picture below. The "coiled wire" resistor is inside of the white block shown. Sorry I don't have a better picture.
  11. This reminds me, back in about 1982 when my 71 350 wouldn't start at times. The starter would NOT spin but I don't remember if it made a clicking noise or not. One time it did this when I was leaving the Buick dealership I worked at and one of the mechanics brought out a hammer, opened the hood and hit the starter motor one or two times and then it cranked and started fine. The starter needed new brushes, and then all was well. The brushes were very very worn out so they didn't even touch. This starter mtr was original to the car and never touched till then. Could anything with the shifter be to blame??? Hold the shifter tight into Park, while you try to start it? Good luck!
  12. Thanks!! Great site and I found my 71 Qudrajet #7041202 and some great pictures. You can clearly see the linkage on the side with all the Choke pull off rods and such. I had mine rebuild in 1993 for $187.00 by the CARBURETOR SHOP in Ontario, Ca. because the primary shaft bushings were worn out and the throttle shaft would wobble when you wiggled it.
  13. Welcome, looking great!
  14. There is a vacuum diaphragm (white thing, bottom left) that controls the speed of the secondary opening. If it is leaking, unhooked or not working properly, this could cause your problem. This also opens your choke slightly after starting the engine cold, so it doesn't run too rich. (This is from my 71 350 4bbl stock engine.
  15. 17, it was my first car and I ordered it new, with the options I wanted and could afford.
  16. Pictures?
  17. My wife had (her first car) a 73 red with black vinyl top 351 2bbl and A/C. It was stolen in 1979, never to be seen again.
  18. What year Cougar??
  19. Welcome back! Yes, post some pictures.
  20. Great story and great car.
  21. Dennis, I just tried with the .gov (on both) but it didn't work.
  22. This is not a scam! I found this from Aug 27, 2011. I did find people I know that had money here. I check the one for Michigan all the time still no luck for me. (I only ask for a 5% finders fee!) 😇 GMA (Good Morning America) had a segment on "Found Money" I checked, none for me BUT I have relatives that need to check! https://unclaimed.org/ https://www.missingmoney.com/app/claim-search Have fun! Bruce
  23. FYI for people who are wondering what axle and or trans to upgrade to. Bringing it to the top.
  24. Picture of my stock 1971 350 4BBL Monte Carlo. I think this connector has one black and one brown wire. I believe it attaches to the relay looking small box just above it. I think it is part of the TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) system, that I unhooked years ago. I think the Green wire also attaches to that relay box that doesn't have any wires attached to it.
