  1. Thanks a million, Sam. That's a good read. So from what I understand is that my little cooler is not an OEM installation but aftermarket (probably for towing)? And that there must be a transmission fluid cooler installed in the main rad because one won't mix water and oil, right? Okay, again learned a lot. However I don't tow, I'm not using the Monte to transport gold bars and it's not getting very hot in Germany so there's a good chance that my car won't stop working if I remove it. Am I right or am I wrong?
  2. It's directly attached to the main cooler on the passenger side. There's a steel tube coming from the engine bay up to beside the battery. This steel tube has a nut which may be used to bolt it directly to the main radiator. Instead a rubber hose leading to the small cooler is mounted to the nut. The other rubber hose coming back from the cooler is connected to the upper hole on the main radiator. So this small cooler is pretty much 'only' an extension and I don't know why it is necessary. Instead I could attached the steel hose nut directly to the main radiator and get rid of this small cooler. However is that small thing a usual component? I couldn't find any photos of Monte Carlos where this was installed.
  3. Hi guys. I removed the radiator for the AC today (AC delete...) and behind it I found a small radiator which seems to be an extension of the big radiator. Is there a specific reason for this one (e.g. necessary for hot climate counties etc.) and is it safe to remove it? Regards Joerg
  4. Thanks a lot guys. That helps a lot understanding the function of this part. I have now disassembled it from the motor. See picture attached. It seems there's no replacement available anywhere. I found out, that the resistor should have 20.6 Ohm according to this picture: http://willcoxcorvette.com/images/wiper%20motor%20resistor.JPG which seems to be valid for all 63-82 wiper motors. So by calculating per the Ohm's law and the back-then standard 12 V it's probably a 20.6O/7W (0,58A) resistor. However with the 14 V today I would rather choose a 22O resistor with 9 or 10W. Does it make sense? Joerg
  5. Hi guys. Today I've disconnected the not working washer pump and I also unscrewed the wiper motor (which was working). During this process the 3-pin connector became loose and unfortunately one of the cables broke. This seems to be a special cabel which is wraped around a small stick. And this white stick broke. I have no idea what's the meaning of this special construction. But I'm wondering if I can replace it with a simple cable? I have attached a photo which shows the mishap. Thanks Joerg
  6. Grinded and cleaned the trunk for hours (still not perfect) and painted it with Hammerite (direct to rust spray can). Next step: Cutting a new trunk mat.
  7. But besides the sizes would a 60/61 Ah do or would I need a stronger one? I guess the current battery technology is way better than it was 40 years ago so probably a 60/61 would do?
  8. My positive lead cable in blue is an extension of the original red cable caused by the top poles and plus pole on the right. Was done by the former owner but I will change both. Which Ampere hours would you suggest? Are the standard 61 Ah okay to use with the 350 engine? I could also buy 65 and 70 Ah here in Germany (with side and inversed poles).

  10. Thanks Scott, Larry and Joe. So I will buy a new battery with the positive terminal left and both terminals on the side. Would a 61Ah battery do (just like it came in the 350 from the factory) or would you suggest to use a stronger one? The negative cable is already attached to the fender but with the thick cable instead of the smaller one. That's probably a usable solution but I will try to change that as well. Only need to find a fitting cable. Maybe this one which isn't cheap at all: OPGI
  11. Hi guys. I'm planning to reroute the battery cables because it currently looks chaotic. I have seen many engine bay photos of Montes but it seems to be there are different solutions. Is there one which is both almost original and efficient/easy? And is there a specific cable type available anywere which can be used without modifying?   12. Hi Rob. Yes, it is, at least for Germany. But I bought the car already wired this way. So I'm not sure what is different. I guess usually the turn signal bulb also works as an always-on Parking light in the US? In Germany one is not allowed to use the turn signal bulb for any other additional function. Joerg
  13. Now with bezels. Looks much better in reality and more red than yellow.
  14. Today I installed these these very cheap LED bulbs in my taillights. They are brighter than the standard bulbs and look much more modern. Need to restore and repaint my tail lense bezels so will provide photos later.
  15. Dennis, thanks again. That sounds like a really good solution. I'm planning to place a big order with Dixies soon with many parts and because of the high shipping costs (>$200) to Germany it's probably the best way to include the A-Arm shields as well. However there are probably lots of people here which could make use of yours. Thanks again for your explanations.
  16. Thanks Dennis. With your photo and the arrows I understood where I needed to look under my Monte. And yes, these are indeed installed. However both the Inner plastic fenders and the shields are heavily cracked. So I will replace them all. I'm also thinking about adding A-Arm Seals because my Monte have lost them. I'm only wondering how to mount them easily. On OPGI there is one reviewer talking about that the staples are hard to use and he found a different setup but doesn't talk about more details. Did you install A-Arm Seals and if yes, how? Thanks again Joerg

  18. Today I installed new exhaust ends. Looks way better.
  19. I checked the relais today and guess what there was a short with the outgoing positive and negative cables. A little bending and now the horn is working finally. Thanks again and have a great Sunday. Joerg
  20. Thanks guys. Tried today to locate the cable and found out that it is somehow located in the middle of the car under the insulating compound. Since I didn't wanted to do a frame off resto only for speakers I decided to tuck the new cable under the carpet on the right side (as it should have been usually from the factory?) and as suggested. It was easy. Thanks again and have a great weekend.
  21. Hey guys. I finally decided to install the old radio but connect a modern one to the old switch. The new radio will be installed into the glove box. I will also install new speakers and new speaker cables. What's the easiest method to replace the cables for the back speakers? I removed the back seats but it seems to be the cables are running one level below and I don't understand how I can get access. Thanks Joerg
  22. Thanks again guys. I think that the smoke came from being too fainthearted trying to touch the housing with the cable. You know I don't wanna burn the car down only because I want to get the horn working... I tried today again with more confidence and there was no smoke anymore and the relais was clicking whenever a short connection was there. So I think there must be something wrong between the relais and the horn. The horn is working when connecting directly to the battery. I guess it will take some time and so I will probably do the checks on the weekend. So long Joerg
  23. Oh great, it is an a/c car. However I'm planning to remove the a/c. So would I need to connect it then ("plug to the top of the box on the inside under the dash") or won't there be a way to connect it?
  24. Hi guys. Hope you're doing well. I got the horn contact cam installed finally but I'm currently lost in understanding in how the horn really works. I thought that when connecting the inner cable temporary to the housing of the steering column the horn should bell. But all I got is a clicking noice from the engine bay and some smoke on the cable which probably means there's a short-circuit fault. So either I'm wrong in how I understand the theoretical function of a horn or there is something wrong with the electrical connections in my Monte. I'd like to hear some thoughts. Oh by the way, the horn itself is working. Thanks Joerg
  25. Hi Joe. That was a great help. I got the radio running and somehow it seems to receive stations. There seems to be something wrong with the frequence control dial so I guess I need to look deeper into it. Just one question regarding the heater resistor cable. Do you know exactly where it needs to be connected? Tried to find it but without success. Thanks again Joerg
