  1. @Royals71 I am only 30 miles from Canton, so not a bad drive at all for me. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. Conrad
  2. I think it would make it out there, but roundtrip is about how much I drive it a year. 😏 Thanks for all the replies. I will definitely give Leo a call next week. Have a good weekend everyone. Conrad
  3. Hello All, I am starting to get some leakage behind my 70’s master cylinder. Both the master cylinder and booster are original to the car and I am looking to replace both. From searching around on the forum, I have seen there are a number of good sources to find repros and rebuilt originals to match my car. My problem is I am not mechanically inclined in the slightest and I don’t feel comfortable replacing components myself that are directly related to a major driving function. Does anyone know mechanics or businesses in SE Michigan that do repair work on classic cars? Through my own searching, I have found a number of “restoration” businesses that do not seem very keen on taking on smaller jobs like this. It seems it is harder to find people that still do general maintenance on classics. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. Conrad
  4. On the topic of spatter paints, does anyone know if this is the correct color for a 70? The picture with the black paint on top is from the inside of my car's rear quarter panel. Would this qualify as gray/black? In my opinion it looks more blue. I am trying to color match for the purposes of touching up a few areas in the trunk. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I had success with the wire wheel and brushing. I do feel inclined to coat the whole trunk with rust reformer and repaint. I am wondering if the spatter paint in there is original for the purposes of color matching it. The car has been repainted in the past and I am not sure if the trunk was done too. Any thoughts? In my opinion this rust is due to water coming into the trunk as it was parked outside for a significant amount of time. It has, however, been garaged and out of the elements for the past 20 years. There is one spot of rot at the lip of the trunk floor underneath the latch but I would have to remove the bumper to gauge the extent of the problem. The underside of the car needs a lot of help as it spent its life in the midwest. 😑 I hope to start addressing it in the springtime.
  6. I have been reluctant to try to tackle some of the rust areas on my car, but I decided to start in the area where it "appears" to be least. I initially spot treated some areas with white vinegar. As the pictures show there is some clean metal underneath the rusted areas. At this point I am not ready to sand down the whole trunk and go the POR15 route and repaint with spatter. For the time being my plan was going to wire wheel the rust spots and then use rustoleom to treat those affected areas. I know spot treating rust is not ideal, but I don't want to take on a big project as I prep the car for storage in the coming weeks. I have no experience with fixing rust and just wanted some input as to whether this plan souds okay as a temporary solution and advice on the particular products to use. Thanks. Conrad
  7. Thanks for the assistance. I found it at the local NAPA.
  8. I opened up the air cleaner today and noticed there was a filter made of a brillo pad like material inside the air cleaner where the vent tube from the valve cover connects. Does anyone know what this piece is called? Mine looks pretty grimmy and thought I should probably try to replace it. Thanks in advance. Conrad
  9. Hello All, I was looking into getting new tires for the Monte because the current tires are fairly old. They were put on the car over ten years ago, however over the past ten years the car has been driven less than 1000 miles. When I went to Belle Tire a few days ago, the tires were inspected and the technicians told me there was no need to get new tires. I was surprised by what the people at Belle Tire had to say and was hoping I could get some input from some members. While the exterior of the tires look ok, have the interior of the tires degraded to the point where leaving the tires on makes the car unsafe to drive? Please let me know. Thanks, Conrad
  10. This post might help you with the reverse light... http://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/topic/13572-back-up-light-question/ Conrad
  11. Based on what we saw last year... I think it's safe to assume you will see a decent amount this year. haha Conrad
  12. Is your garage humid? The door panels in my car feel sticky sometimes when I pull it out of the garage, but other times they don't. It seems to depend on what the weather is like. Conrad
  13. Thanks for the input Scott. I decided just to keep the battery that's in there. My battery tray doesn't touch the radiator either. I also ran it by the shop where I had the radiator replaced and they pointed out that the battery has a few inches of plastic on the side close to the radiator which would protect the battery from receiving any damage. Conrad
  14. Doug and Larry, thank you very much for the input. I will look into those two options. Conrad
  15. I replaced the radiator in my Monte two summers ago and it is still under warranty. I have been told by multiple people (including Sam at the Woodward Cruise) that the radiator is too close to the battery and could cause problems if the battery gets really hot. Any additional thoughts? Also, I am looking for a radiator that looks stock. I know that US Radiator makes repro radiators for Montes. Has anyone had experience with them before? Thanks.
