  1. If I understand your message correctly, these are reproduced, I just bought a set from National Parts Depot and they fit perfectly here is the info: https://www.npdlink.com/store/products/plug_shoulder_belt_hole_mounts_at-183305-8.html part number is C-14875-61A $10.95 each.
  2. Will the A-pillar covers for a 72 Chevelle fit in the 70 Monte?
  3. I installed the plastic ones in a Monte I had years ago and all I remember was I over tightened them and cracked them right from the get go. For this reason I want to try the metal option. Thanks for all the replies and opinions, very helpful as always.
  4. Can't seem to find any posts on the topic. Please direct me if this information is already out there...greatly appreciated. I was considering replacing my plastic fenders for metal ones. Does anybody make these for a 70 Monte? If not are the Chevelle ones hard to convert? I've heard this has been done before. If anybody has done this, what mods does the conversion take to complete? Thanks.
  5. Yes I saw that in the Haynes manual. There is also a colour diagram you can purchase from Amazon but it is for the Chevelle and includes wiring for the gauges. Would this help? The wiring in the car has just been cut to crap ('scuse the language). Previous owner cut a bunch of wires in the engine compartment left them disconnected when the engine was swapped out. Also octopussed a bunch of wires together. Real lack of knowledge and a hack job. I just can't understand what people are thinking???? Anyway my brother is very capable of putting everything back together but would make life a lot easier if we had accurate schematics. I'm pretty sure from previous posts that it has the proper gauge cluster harness but I have also read your posts on how to switch from lights to gauges if I need to. Thanks for all the input and advice. I'm learning something new everyday.
  6. All my manuals that contain wiring diagrams show examples of the wiring going to idiot lights. Do schematics exist showing wiring from engine compartment - fuse block - gauges? I have checked all my GM, Fisher Body and aftermarket manuals and all are to idiot lights.
  7. Well I hooked everything back up today and I am no further ahead. Instrument lights not working, Gas gauge goes past Full, Temp gauge fluctuates wildly and the tach doesn't work. Amp gauge stays at 0 (zero), the clock seems to be the only thing that works. I'm starting to think the car was originally an idiot light car and the owner before me tried to swap it out. I read Dennis' pages on swapping to gauges but couldn't figure out what wires in the harness needed to be switched around or where the wires from the fuse panel connected to in the harness. Has this been posted in the past?
  8. Very helpful. I will connect the wire to the dash frame and see what happens. Will post results once I get the dash connected back up. Thanks everyone.
  9. Hi Everyone: This is a great help. I will go back at it this weekend and hopefully be able to button up the dash and steering column. I believe I have the ground on the parking brake, the light switch and on the door jamb switch but not on the dash frame so I have to put one there. Besides the light switch wire, is there another black ground wire that attaches somewhere else on the cluster? I'm assuming the light switch wire is the one that has the metal strip attached to it.
  10. Thanks for all the replies. Can anyone tell me where the two black ground wires hook up to? It looks like they wounld mount somewhere on the cluster. Thanks again. You've all been a great help in sorting this out for me.
  11. The wire is attached to the AMP gauge but was not connected to anything when I took the dash out. The circuit board was a mess on this side of the cluster so I would agree that the previous owner was attempting to bypass the board. I'm going to remove this wire now that I have a new board. I have attached a picture of the harness plug and it is a dark blue wire but upon closer inspection it looks like the wire might have been put there. Not sure if you can see in the picture but it is in with a gray wire and it looks like there was a wire there at some point and now this one shoved in there. This wire was also not connected to anything when I took the dash out and I could not see any wires cut along the group of taped up wires connected to this harness. Great article Bruce...added to my Favorites, Thanks!
  12. From the condition of the cluster and original circuit board, it looks like a factory cluster. It is an AMPS gauge that the wire is attached to. I have attached pictures of the gauge, the wire connected to the gauge and the cut wire on the harness. Any ideas what the cut wire on the harness was for and why the wire on the AMPS gauge?
  13. stangeba: When I bought the car, None of the gauges were working, and speedo was not connected. When I took the dash out, I could see that "metal strip" I referred to in an earlier post was not connected and there is a homemade wire connected to one of the posts on one of the small gauges (Can't remember which gauge and car is at my buddies shop right now). I believe it is the gauge above the light switch that this wire is attached to. Also, one of the wires in the main harness is deliberately cut and I'm not sure why. I replaced the circuit board, Lastly, I'm missing 3 of the little black light sockets (anybody know where I can get these?). While I have it apart, I'd like to see if I can get everything sorted out and working.
  14. cbolt, the gauge cluster is separated from the dash. I just want to plug the cluster in without attaching it to the dash.
  15. I had posted to my last gauge cluster question so apologies for repeating my question: Before I put the dash back in, I want to check the gauge cluster to see that everything is working. Electrical is not a strong point for me so I was wondering what it would take to just plug the gauge cluster into the wiring harness without the dash in place to see that everything works. Is this possible? From reading other posts it sounds like making sure everything is grounded is a priority. Any specifics much appreciated
  16. I meant without the dash in place sorry
  17. I've owned both buckets and bench as well. The bench for me was very practical at the time because I have 4 kids, wife so all 6 of us could go for a drive. They are older now and I have gone back to bucket seats. I have to agree with others, it just looks so much sportier with those seats and a console. I have an extra bucket interior (most of the parts) in a saddle colour if this is the colour your using and you need anything PM me.

  19. Thanks everyone for the replies. This has been very helpful and definitely saved me a bunch of unwanted headaches.
  20. Hi Everyone: I just recently purchased a 70 MC that was somewhat disassembled and slapped back together haphazardly. I'm trying to put it back together and just can't seem to remember where some things go. Can anybody tell me where the metal strip that is wired to the back of the cluster gets attached to? I have included a picture of the cluster with the metal strip visible in front of it. Thanks.
  21. Thanks for the quick reply. Anybody familiar with this engine kit? Any advice?
  22. Would like to know the compression ratio of the 350 c.I. 250 hp, 2bbl. V8 that came in the 1970 Monte. Looking to put in an Edelbrock 2099 Top end kit. Any advice/help appreciated.
