  1. Mine is just over 3200 without me in it and half tank of gas. Shaved firewall, fiberglass fenders and hood, and some other less significant weight saving measures.
  2. That's a bit beyond my scope. I left the work to a professional and he brought it down a layer and resprayed as the scratch wasn't deep. The good news it's that panel had some imperfections anyway and now it is all taken care of. But yes, he masked the graphic and sprayed the whole panel. Though I spent some money, I'm happy that the panel looks better than even before it had the scratch.
  3. I'd be happy with that time. Any video possibly?
  4. If I we a betting man, I'd bet you have the 2:73 gear ratio.
  5. You misunderstand. The panel is painted with a satin finish. My idea was to plasti dip over that, but that's too thick of a coating and would not align with the emblem. It would look cheaply done.
  6. It's not literally dipping the quarter panel. The name of the product is Plasti Dip which is a rubberized coating that is sprayed on with several layers creating a protective surface. Having talked to a professional about it, that's not the direction I can go ifI want to retain the gloss '454' in the quarter. He figured what I was afraid of thatthe dip us a thick coating and it would not be level with the emblem. So, got to contact someone else.
  7. One thing I was actually thinking and this is very unorthodox so bear with me: I was thinking of having both panels professionally dipped. They could mask the stencil, dip it in satin black, and have a much more scratch resistant finish on those panels. I'm just finding that keeping those panels nice is quite a chore. I'm going back to the show today to talk to a vendor that does this. Thoughts?
  8. Yes and we don't need to get into that. Just have to move forward and get it fixed.
  9. Hey guys. In my Sig, you can see that satin black contrast in the rear quarter. Well, it got a scratch in it, and it's a significant one. Short of having to repaint the whole panel, what are my options. Keep in mind this is a SATIN (flat) finish so polishing and buffing will ruin it.
  10. That is an ingenious idea. I fired it up to get the stabil circulated into the lines and took video with my new camera. I was testing out the sound quality and software and posted it to fb, but I'll post the youtube link for you guys here.

    71 monte ss

Ummm....yeah, what Dan said. I'd like to expound on that.....but it's all been said.
  12. Uummm, what's on the hood of that black '71? Nice turnout, though. I went to a local cruise a few weeks back with almost 400 cars. Only 1 other FGMC and we arrived at the same time and he parked right next to me. His was also black, but a beautiful stock restoration. Everyone thought we planned that and cruised in together. I didn't even know the guy.
  13. Nice car and I think your reserve it's more than fair. If you don't mind sharing, I noticed a track pic. What did it run?
  14. ^ Not doing that until the snow flies. I logged more miles today. Still breaking it in.
  15. Took the beast out yesterday to do my regular Sunday errands. I was stopped by someone everywhere I went. Draws maybe too much attention for my liking, but I'm always pleasant. As this thing breaks in and loosens up, it feels better and better each time I take it out. It'll be out regularly until the snow flies. Definitely a solid build.
  16. Interesting. My friend wants to carpet it and build a removable box that hides the battery and fuel pumps along with all the lines for a very clean look like under the hood. Don't know if I want to go that in depth.
  17. Very nice gentlemen. Thanks for sharing.
  18. Hey guys. Looking for ideas, here. My trunk is empty besides the battery and the 2 fuel pumps mounted in it. It has no liner, carpet, etc. so I'm brainstorming how I want it finished. All ideas and pictures of your own are welcomed. I'm not looking for anything crazy, just something nice that will not detract from the rest of the car since they want me in World of Wheels come springtime. My wife made the mistake of suggesting the same orange and black theme found under the hood and the interior. Now I can't get that great albeit more expensive idea out of my head. So, what do ya got?
  19. I never win even when the competition is a joke. Participant judging yesterday yielded me nothing. A guy with a beautiful 73 Camaro and I were clearly the frontrunners in our class, but somehow we got beat out by a Saturn Skye and a '95 Mustang with ugly wheels. Don't ask.
  20. Drove the car down to a big show this weekend with a buddy and my son. Once again, it proved to be a real show stopper. However, my son put a scratch in it when he was helping put the hood up. It'll get taken care of. Funny coincidence; the only other FGMC there out of over 350 cars happened to pull in at the same time from the opposite direction and parked right behind me. It was also black.
  21. I took it out for a little spirited cruise today. I had it cleaned up for the shows this weekend, but one got rescheduled because of the weather and the other canceled. Anyway, thought I'd take her for a spin. This thing handles well and moves out like a champ. Many thumbs-up from other random drivers.
  22. Color me covetous. That's a sweet and clean ride. Sounds good, too.
  23. Here's a couple pics taken here locally as well as the one in my sig. The few shows I've been to, it has received literally hundreds of compliments. It gathers a crowd like no other vehicle at the shows, and that's not my words. No awards, though. I've noticed stock restoration vehicles from the muscle car era get the trophies, but that's okay. I like it and my family likes it (even though my wife is scared of it ).

    1970 SS COPO

I agree that I'll believe it when I see a real one with the documents to prove it. I looked for sources, but nothing was cited. My guess is that each source somehow cites another source and it gets very circular only to lead back to one rather shaky vision. I've seen it in other research I've done. That guy probably didn't know what he had. It's amazing how many people in this hobby have very little knowledge of their respective vehicles much less general automotive knowledge to begin with. I'm no Monte Carlo guru or automotive aficionado by any stretch, but I know a couple things.
