  1. We’re enjoying minus 5 here at the moment (20° in American!) so not much driving this side of Christmas. She’s driving great though. The biggest difference was rebuilding the Quadrajet with larger jets from Cliff Ruggles. My main niggle now is hard starting when hot, which I think is the starter overheating. Going to wrap tne starter with insulation and see if that helps.
  2. Finally got the shocks & springs replaced, all new rubber too. the car drives so much better, and the stance is perfect. 10” off the ground behind the front wheel, 12” off at the rear. it was sitting at maybe 8” at the rear before with the old springs, which looked awful. I’m missing some trim (that’s next), and yes, I painted the grille!
  3. Finally got the tank out today. What is this restrictor? Which hose is it in? I’m putting it back together tomorrow and I didn’t see anything like this!
  4. I though so, but they are dual so the 5w is always on amber?
  5. Sorted. 1157 bulbs are called 380 here - dual filament 21/5w. I think it was backfeed Tom because I had single filament in there 😬. Wasn’t paying attention. Loads of corrosion though, need to replace a side marker and a bottom rear bulb fitting. Hazard switch broken but turn signals are good again. Cheers
  6. I swapped relays to see what happened. The turn signal clicks normally, but barely flickers the lights. The dash is a different story. Both turn lights come on and the gen and oil lights flash. bad ground?
  7. I did not Dennis. what do I have to remove to get at it? Is that not the indicator flasher I had out?
  8. Hi folks, I'm having indicator trouble. I suspected the flasher relay so I shorted the connections on the fuse board with a little connecting wire, but it didn't make any difference. The bulbs have all been changed. The rear side lights come on and stay on when I turn the light switch on. turning the indicator lever has no effect. The front side lights don't come on with the light switch or the indicator lever. the front indicator bulbs (the large 382 amber bulbs - this is a '72) come on with the headlights, but they don't flash. Both the dash indicator lights come on when I turn the light switch on, and they don't flash when I turn the indicator stalk. Also, the hazard switch doesn't click out when I pull it. Headlights work as they should. Brake lights work perfect when the dash light switch is off, but when the headlights are on, the rear (red) lights come on and the brake lights are barely brighter than the rear lights. If I remember correctly, the indicators worked on one side only when I got the car, and the other side would come on but not flash. The hazard switch was always stiff, but used to work ok. The relay used to click up until a few weeks ago. it doesn't now. The rear side light accessed in the trunk is corroded and needs replacing. I got it working to test it, with a piece of tin foil to make the connection. I haven't done anything with the electrics recently, but I painted the engine and some frame parts, and had the battery out for a while. car is driving great. Does is sound like I just need a new flash relay and two front (pigtail?) side light harnesses? What can I do with the hazard switch?
  9. nice to get to this stage. Rebuilt the Quadrajet too with larger primary jets (65) and smaller primary rods (44B), and a new choke pull off mechanism. Pretty much just have to put fluids back in and hope for the best it works again!
  10. Beautiful car. Will you keep it the same color? by the way what’s the blue car behind it in your garage? First gen Camaro?
  11. Isn’t the purpose of it to reduce emissions by restricting vacuum advance until 3rd gear?
  12. Thanks gents. The TCS solenoid because mine is broken, and it just seems tidier and simpler to bypass it. I don’t see any advantage in keeping it except for a restoration. It seems like an afterthought. I figured some of the other emissions stuff might be the same. sorry yeah mines got air con and is auto, 350.
  13. what can I safely delete from the emissions system without messing up the operation of the car? I have removed the TCS solenoid and put the vacuum direct from carb to distributor can I remove the fast idle solenoid? how about the temp sensor on the block? is there anything else?
  14. Can anyone tell me the thread size that goes into the water pump, and the hose end diameter. It’s to fit a stock replacement AC Delco for an sbc 350. A part number even better!
  15. Thank Scott. I don’t think it’s an issue, looks like it’s a lifting point like what’s on the same place on the other side. Just curious.
  16. Can anyone tell me what this bolt hole is for? A missing mount to lift the engine? It’s right beside the bracket that holds the spark plug leads.
  17. Thanks Willie. When I got the radiator re-cored I thought it’s just a few more parts to remove / snowball! We have 90 degrees here today, unusually hot for august, great weather for painting. Nearly ready to start assembling, can’t wait to drive her again
  18. Haha my pops still reads the paper every day. A lot of people still read them here. Handy for painting!
  19. 3.5 acres of newspaper later, I got to use the VHT Chevy orange paint on the block. Very satisfying stage. A few more bits to paint then it’s time to put it all back together
  20. That makes sense, thanks guys. They are rubber but not thick enough to be stiff. Might work when they are stapled though. It would be nice to keep the road out of the engine bay
  21. My old ones are broken, only the staples are left! but the new ones are much larger , they don’t seem to fit. Should I cut them to fit? Here is what I bought OPGI from summit https://www.summitracing.com/parts/OPG-FSK5067
