  1. Ok every one here's my 70 Monte with all the trim done. Thanks everyone for all the input on hole locations, especially the rocker holes. The door trim that had the oblong nubs, I found fit snugly in a .500 hole. Did many test holes in scrap sheet metal. I spotted each hole with about an .080 drill, then 2 more sizes up to .1875. Then I used 2 sheet metal step drills the 1st one I went up to .375 then I ground another one to start at .375 and went to .500 I did that just to make sure I didn't drill into the inner skin of the door. Now my next project will be the AC. I have a new compressor. Thanks again, Wayne.
  2. My 70 trim is finished on the drivers side. When I have it all complete I'll post some pictures. Wayne
  3. Welcome, I own a 1970 Monte that's had a lot of modifications. I'm not big in the matching numbers thing. I would build it the way you want it.
  4. Thanks again everyone for all your help, got the driver side on. went smooth after I knew what I was doing. Wayne.
  5. Dennis, Your measurements must be wrong. The dimension from the front to the rear hole on my trim is 79 1/2" not 63 1/2" like you mentioned. please advise. thanks Wayne
  6. Ok that makes sense I'll put the holes at the locations noted (that's from the front going back) right? I also did another test drill in some sheet metal. Going to drill 11/32" instead of 5/16". would have been a little to much force and I don't want any marks pushing out on the rocker trim. Thanks again for all the advise. Wayne.
  7. Yes I agree that the hole for the screw in the rear should be spotted last. I'm going to use 7 clips with one as close to the front as possible. So there will be approx. 11 1/8" between the center of each clip and the rear hole. Dennis you said to put the first hole at 6.5". Why? I'm going to put the first hole as close to the front behind the front fender as possible. Joe thanks for mentioning keeping the rocker trim just below the body line in the rear. I will use a piece of masking tape for the short front section. Then mark and drill all the holes except the rear one for the screw. then with all the clips in place I will gently push the trim in part way in each 5/16" hole, the spot the rear hole with a transfer punch. Thanks everyone I plan on doing this tomorrow ,got all the clips in and equally spaced. Wayne
  8. Thank You very much. This will really help me out.
  9. I just did a test hole in a piece of sheet metal and a .3125 (5/16) is the right size. I still have to figure a way of measuring in the Y axis.
  10. My base is .285 So I would use a drill a little smaller than .3125 (5/16). Thanks I see how they are used. My only concern is drilling the holes in a straight line. Keeping them the same dimension in the Y axes . In the X axes I can slide them back and forth a little. Also how many clips should I use per rocker trim?
  11. Attached are some pictures of the plastic rocker panel clips. Do they slide into the trim with the little tail pointing up or down? Also the tapered nub that pushes into a hole is about .425 diameter. what size hole should I drill? The relief dim. that is after the taper is about .290. I have no holes in the body. I can keep the trim straight in the area below the door. But I could use some advise to keep the holes in front and back of the door in a straight line. Thanks, Wayne.
  12. I took the pictures at a post office in Gates. I've only had this car a little over a year. Before that I had a 67 Impala in a metallic blue. Wayne
  13. Syracuse this year maybe Carlisle next year. Wayne
  14. Hears my 70 Monte with the front and rear quarter trim on. Thanks every one for tips. Wayne.
  15. Yes, that is what I was planning on using.
  16. Does anyone know the most accurate way to check the stall speed of the torque converter that's in the car. I've read about brake stall and flash stall. I don't want to ruin the transmission. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Wayne
  17. Scott, thank you very much. That's exactly what I wanted to know. I'll put some layers of tape on a small pair of vise grips and hold it with that.
  18. I had posted a more lengthy post on this. What I want to know is if I disconnect the TV cable on my 700r4 Transmission at the transmission, witch is already adjusted properly, is the link that the cable connects to in the transmission going to stay in place to reconnect?
  19. Still up in the air about trying a different torque converter. From my cam specs. I have been told by Jegs that I should have a 2200 to 2600 rpm stall converter. I have no idea what is in there now because the Lemmon Squad lied on the report about road testing the car. So I'm not on good terms with the seller. I had a different shift kit put in it last spring and had springs and weights in the valve body by a good transmission mechanic. According to the number on the transmission it is a 1982 ,the first year they were made and has the 27 input spline. I've put 1000 miles on it and really don't like the way it idles. It runs and shifts fine. Not knowing what stall is in there now my mechanic says going to a different torque converter could make it better or worse. I know how to take it out, but the TV cable is all adjusted properly and where it goes into the transmission held on with the 10 mm bolt I'm worried about taking it out and loosing the link that the TV cable is connected to. Any advice about that would be appreciated. First tho I have to get my ac working properly. Thanks, Wayne
