  1. I think they were recommended to me on another Hot Rod forum at the time. They worked fine on the other vehicles, and now are working on the MC!
  2. My theory regarding insufficient load was correct. I replaced the incandescent amber bulbs in the front and now everything flashes as it should. I'm going to order load resistors for the front signals rather than tie in additional sockets under the hood.
  3. I used the same process on the MC as I did on my '64 Valiant and '37 Pontiac. On those two I bought 1157 bulbs from superbright LEDs, and used the same flashers from Amazon, CEC 2 prong with a ground wire. On the MC I used the same flashers but bought 1157's from Amazon. Looking at the Superbright products, the have a slightly higher wattage draw than the Amazons. I did add an additional 4 ga, ground strap to the frame, and one to the firewall. No change. But..........with my head under the dash listening to the flashers click in both hazard and turn modes I pulled the lights on and the flasher started "stuttering", like they weren't latching, or like a starter solenoid when the battery is low. Hmmm, not enough draw? I'm going to tap in an incandescent bulb to each side tomorrow and see if that helps. I'll have to look under the dash to see where the harness is grounded and clean that connection. Any clue as to that location? Another thought. I havent looked, but does the firewall bulkhead connection unplug? Maybe that needs to be cleaned.........
  4. Well, I put 1157 running and turn signal LEDs in mine along with the electronic flashers with a ground wire. Turn signals and hazards flash fine until I turn on the running lights/headlights, then they stop flashing, though the flashers are clicking and the dash indicators glow at 1/2 strength. I tried switching the leads on the flashers, that didn't work. ANy ideas?
  5. The GM 1501-8459spring does not fit. It's a tapered spring with the wire on the narrow end bent in across the diameter of the spring, won't go over the pin. Not having a Menards anywhere near me (FL) I found a spring on ebay with the same part number and matching dimensions as the Midwest Fastener item that 1970mcss posted. https://www.ebay.com/itm/175030924165 My thanks to 1970mcss 👍 for sharing this info, I have a spring on the way!
  6. Thanks, that's the info I was seeking. 👍
  7. Has anyone used this repop emblem? Quality? https://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/product/1972/1972-chevrolet-monte-carlo-hood-spear-emblem-reproduction-this-is-only-the-emblem-that-mounts-in-the-hood-spear/4634
  8. Excellent, that's what I'll get if the new OEM doesn't work as expected. Thanks!
  9. Thanks guys. Ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TAB1CF2/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If it doesn't work I'll check the menards unit or find one to go in the center.
  10. When I pull the hood release, the heavy hood barely rises enough to get my fingers under it. Is there some adjustment in this assembly? Shims to preload the spring? Is there a heavier spring available?
  11. Came across this as I'm researching LED's for my new to me '72. I had the same issue on my '64 Valiant convertible, had to switch tne leads on the flasher, works like a charm!
  12. Storm mostly passed my area, lots of small tree debris in the yard. Walked out to the shop, the M.C. is safe & dry!
  13. Everyone stay safe. The forecast track has it coming past me about 50-60 miles south. Biggest threat at present, barring a tornado, is rainfall, 1-2ft. My property is high & dry.
  14. Thanks for all the welcoming posts and the storm safety comments, appreciate it! I found a small notebook in the glove box with comments from the 2nd owner. He sold the car at 142,000 miles, but states the motor was rebuilt at 85,000. At this point it reads (1)46,280, so the rebuild has 61,280 miles. It does run strong, I'll be digging into it more once the storm passes.
  15. Just got this '72 home, 3 owner, 46K, 350/350, AC, mostly original, typical rust around the vinyl top area. Cruises real nice, has 18" rally's with 245F & 255R.
