  1. I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to remove my kick panels. Any help? Car is a 1970 with no A/C. Modern Chevrolet has replacements for $179 a set by special order or I can remove mine and replace the vent cables and see if I can clean up or buy vent covers. Tom
  2. I have '86 books (last printing) but I won't be in the shop again until Wednesday where they are. Check back then.
  3. Thanks for the reply. The uv7 is the date code and factory code. This is great. I now hve markings from three different LOF (Libby Owens Ford) windshields. Steve gave me markings, but I would like to verify them with one more car. His If anyone has a marking like TV-10 next to AS-1 onthe other side of [LOF], I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Steve for your markings. Tom
  4. Looking for markings from a 1970 with a "-10" in the date code next to [LOF]. Thanks! Tom
  5. Will someone please look at their windshield for me? Please see above post.
  6. Thanks Steve, I'm real close now. Anyone else have a 1970 windshield with -10 markings in the date code? Date code is to the right of LOF. Tom
  7. The glass markings are all wacky: LHD marked outside reads inside TV-10 RHD marked inside reads inside AV-10 LRQ marked inside reads outside TV-10 RRQ marked outside reads inside TV-10 Rear marked inside reads outside AV-10 Pilkington says all new glass is less than 1/4 inch. The M-74 code stands for 1/4" glass.
  8. Thanks for the article Steve, but it seems they got the date code backwards. Your windshield, if original was not made in 1960, 1983, or 1986. Likewise, I was having a hell of a time trying to fugure how I had Dec 70 glass in a Sept 70 car. LOF Month Code - First Character N X L G J I U T A Y C V Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec LOF Year Code - Second Character A Z X V T N Y U L I C G J 1953 1954 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959 1960 1961 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991
  9. Ready to order a set of glass. Pilkington (800) 848-1351 will etch new glass with the original LOF markings. My windshild was replaced so I don't have the original markings. Car was built in Van Nuys October 1969. I'm pretty sure my date code is M-74. If someone would please read their 1970 original windshield, I would sure appreciate it. I also need to know which side of the glass the markings are on and which side they read. The one I have has in the right upper: AT (arrow down) S-1 Below it is marked: SHADED E-Z-EYE SAFETY FLOAT ASI [LOF] UV LAMINATED ANTENNA DOT 15 M28 Marks are inside, read outside. Thanks! Tom Tom
  10. I see Original Parts Group has this stuff too. I can go over there and they'll show me stock.
  11. Anybody done business with these guys? http://www.autoobsession.com/RestorationParts/WS-MC.html
  12. Do Montes and Chevelles use the same felts? I thought the Monte door was longer. This site shows the same for both: http://www.ecparts.net/Wstrip.htm#Window%20Felt%20Sets
  13. I am looking for window felts again. The last time I looked (1984) they were so bad I thought I would try to restore mine. In need inners and outers for the doors and quarter windows. I have 6 long ones and maybe 2 of them I picked up at a junk yard (or do they go somewhere else?). Mine have the stainless steel beads and trim. Anybody doing a good job of making or restoring these? Tom
  14. Tom A good place close to you is Muscle Factory 162-B East Orangethorpe, Placentia (714) 223-0745 Tom
  15. I need to buy window felts. Does Metro make them too? Any other sugestions?

    A few more ?'s

John, Is 091I anywhere in the VIN? You are looking in the correct place. There may be a second stamping past CRN. CRN is correct for a 70SSMC. Build sheet may be under rear seat, behind rear seat back, under gas tank, and behind front seat back shells.
  17. I had mine sand blasted and powder coated. Some of the blast media wound up in the powder coat, but it rubbed out. Acid is OK if it is followed by hot caustic and phosphate. I would not use just a HCl bath. The frame would bleed forever.
  18. I always thought the best way to keep a thief from stealing your car is to leave the key in the ignition. Or even better, the key in the ignition and the window down. There's no challenge there. If you really want to get your car stolen, use a club. Those make the thief laugh. "Look at that, this guy thinks he can stop me with a club. I'll show him!" I would never use a club. So don't worry about it. Consider it theft protection. I have a car that has never had the key out of the ignition. The previous owner told me that if I ever took it out, I'd better have at least a half hour to get it back in. Secondly, if a thief decides to joy ride your car, you wont have to replace all the stuff he breaks when he slide hammers your ignition switch.
  19. To roughly get your engine speed (rpm), take the speed of interest (mph) and divide by the tire circumference (ft/rev) and multiply by the gear ratio. Ex: (60 mi/hr x 5280 ft/mi x 1 hr/60 min) / (27" (dia) / (12"/ft) x 3.1416 (pi)) x 3.31 = 2,472 rpm
  20. Troy, Got fillers yet? I finally got a can of black rubber for coating wrench handles and used a 1" chip brush to paint it on mine. You can see some brush marks, but it restored them pretty good. Forget what it's called. Plastic dip? Tom
