  1. Congratulations... that is one staight looking car. That air cleaner, from what I've seen would not be the correct one for a 70 ls-6 chevelle either. The ls-6 dual snorkel cleaners I've seen have smaller openings at the end of the snorkels. the one on your car looks similar to the type i've seen on some mid 70's corvettes and or camaro's The dual snorkel for the 70 ls-6 came on the ls-6 cars which did not have the cowl induction flap.( the ones with a flap got the regular cowl induction air cleaner) hope this helps...good luck with the car too! ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS

    cowl paint

top of the cowl in my experience is always black. the only part painted body color would be the sides. Not sure if the image will show (haven't had much luck with images lately) this is the cowl of a white car. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS [This message has been edited by DaveC (edited 11-09-2002).]
  3. Correct, they would cut the strip into 3 pieces!
  4. I Think the rear pad is automatically included with Z20 SS option. My build sheet does not list it, but does list the front bumper guards. Hope this helps. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS

    Engine Code

Steve, I've found all of mine under the bottom section of the back seat, as well as hanging from the springs in either of the front bucket seats, I recently found one under the back plastic "shell" or cover on one of the buckets...but low and behold it was for a 70 SS which had a production number @10 cars ahead of mine. I've only ever seen pieces of them under the gas tank. The reason I suggested checking the casting date on the block, was for the posibility of someone re-stamping an incorrect block. I don't think you'll get any confirmation from GM, unless your car was built in Canada..in which case they can provide documentation on it for a fee. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS

    Engine Code

Steve,, For what it's worth..I've heard/read that it was not uncommon for the VIN not to get stamped in that location along with the numbers you've listed. But that it may also be stamped on the block above the oil filter as you've stated. If the seller has the build sheet, the upper left hand corner will indicate the unit number produced and the production date. maybe with that info you can confirm that the block was manufactured before the car and not the other way around. You could also have him get the casting numbers from the block (just above the bellhousing) the casting date will be there as well. That date definately shouldn't be a later date than the stamped one you described on the front engine boss. If those dates check out, and you have a build sheet I think you shouldn't have any issues with value. I think Dan Ruland here on the board went through the same thing as you recently with his SS, maybe Dan can shed some more light on the subject for you. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS [This message has been edited by DaveC (edited 03-26-2002).]
  7. That's what happens when a part is discontinued... supply ceases, price increases. Economics 101!! You still may get lucky and find a pair cheaper than 200-250 though. Good luck
  8. I think you are correct Carl....Chevelles did not use these. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  9. Thanks Andreas, I'll take it.. e-mail me with details. Carl, I'll still take a few ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  10. No big rush on my end Carl. I'm going to be selling my house in 2 months as well as building a new one, needless to say, I won't have too much time for the cars. Keep me in mind though, I will want them when you get around to making them. Thanks, Dave
  11. Carl, I'd be interested in a few of those. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  12. Kevin, I have heard that CARS Inc. is the maker of the cloth seat covers, if I'm not mistaken the cloth covers cost a couple hundred $$ more than the vinyl. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  13. The clock in my 72 worked up until about 1988. (not too bad) I had had the cluster out, when I did the frame off on it (finished in 1992), and shot a little mystery oil into the gears and spun thing around by hand a few times. The clock worked for about 4 more years and pooped out again....must be time for another shot of mystery oil!! ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  14. Maybe these will help, I don't believe that the jams have ever been repainted on this car. Please ignore the "funky' carpet, soon to be replaced with the correct black! ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS [This message has been edited by DaveC (edited 01-07-2001).]
  15. I'm pretty sure that the black actually goes under the sill plate as well as covers the complete rocker, from the top of the rocker molding down, as well as runs from "tire to tire". So yes it goes on part of the quarter, but I don't think it covers the part of the quarter that attaches to the rocker at the bottom (seen when you open the door) hope this makes sense. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  16. The rod goes through the metal part "collar" surrounding the steering column (that mounts to the cowl). And there is a boot that it goes through. What year car did you get your pedals from? It sounds unusuall that they would be different than the "A/T" one (at least in the way they mount)up under the dash. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  17. In my 72 I found one under the back seat and one folded and hanging from the springs under the passenger side bucket. In my 70 I found one under the backseat, but the top left corner was torn (I can read the date it was built but not which number built that day) So I was really happy to find one behind the plastic shell (on the backrest) recently, while getting them ready to recover, until I looked at it..... it was for a 70 SS. When I compared it to mine I found they were both built on the same day and about 10 cars apart in production sequence. So if you have a red 70 SS with black top and black bucket interior, and no air, originally purchased in Georgia........I want my seats back!!! ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
  18. Steve, The answer is yes You just need to find someone who is capable of swapping out your "open-end" carrier for a "posi". It is not just a simple remove and replace. There are a number of tolerences that need to be just right to get the ring gear and pinion gear to mesh perfectly. Other wise the gears will waer prematurely. I've never seen any production figure on posi vs non-posi. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 69 427 Corvette roadster 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
