  1. I still have the original black vinyl top. Soap and water to clean it, and Vinylex keeps it looking brand new. It's garaged so sun/rain aren't an issue.

  3. Davey and Wallaby hit the issue exactly. It is unique, buckets and a column shifter. I do hear "where's the console". And if I a choice, I think the console looks much better. I do remember a time in my youth that a console was not very convenient when we go to the drive-in It's still down on the bottom of the list of the things I might like to do. I got a long list of things that have to be done. oh yeah, wallaby, that picture is scary.
  4. Has anyone every put a console into a non-console car? I'm not seriously considering it at this time, but I was just curious. I have a 70 SS auto-trans with buckets. I'm trying to keep the car 'original' but w/o a console, the interior looks incomplete. Has anyone made this switch? Pro's/Con's? Mike
  5. About 8 hours for me. All I need is an engine and I'm good to go! I'd drive right past Tony if I turnpike it. Rt 80 is always like driving through a war zone of construction. Mike
  6. Does any one know: 1) What the heck the inner fender flaps? are called. You all know, the rubber/roofing paper doohickies with staples. 2) Where would I get them? Thanks Haze
  7. Cowl hood option?? Mine doesn't have that. I am glad for the 8,000 lb. towing package. Now I can bring my AirStream camper with me to the shows.
  8. I don't get upset about it. Knowing my Uncle John (original owner) the way I do, I can easily see him grumbling that the console cost too much. No a/c either. Robs HP. As for the build sheet, I'm going check the front seat backs this week. The back seat was out earlier in the year and nothing. As for the gas tank, the car was undercoated 37 years ago and the roof tar gets all over everything. I'm not looking forward toward doing that anytime soon. Haze
  9. Entered the Monte in a local show and I continue to get the occasional 'expert' who insists that it's not a real #s matching SS because it doesn't have a console with the stratobuckets. I use to be a little miffed but since this car has been in the family since new, I know different. Anyone else have similar discussions with people? (the interior isn't really that gray) Haze
  10. no i haven't. most stuff leaves them looking sorta blue and hazey (no pun intended). i haven't seen it a my regular parts place.
  11. We have a wax thread going but I have a real hard time cleaning my trim rings and center caps. I have the original caps wrapped up (too easy to swipe) and I got a set of rings and caps with my new wheels. I can't get them clean!!! yeah, yeah, vinegar, etc. doesn't work and then i smell like a pickle. Any suggestions? The set is not of the highest quality. Thanks - Haze

    SS build sheets.

I really lucked out since I'm the second owner of my 70 SS and the original owner has the same last name as I do. It's a Flint car and I've yet to find a build sheet. I do have the ProtectoPlate that has my uncles name on it. Having the plate and some other original docs is really cool. As for buying the car in any other situation, I agree with Vaughn. I didn't get the car for an investment. I got it to cruise and attract women. At least the first part of that has come true. Just took some pics of the ProtectoPlate. Haze
  13. Tim - that was great. I pretty much figured out how/why the system worked but the rear bumper air fill really confused me. Being that I just got the car from my uncle, i think I'll hold off on any rebuild. I'm waiting for classic car insurance, tags, and state inspection. Hopefully I'll have it cruising next week. Again, thanks for the detailed explanation. I couldn't find the info anywhere. Mike
  14. I've been trying to find out some details on my 70 SS level system and just what the heck it does. I assume that when I load up the back seat with gravity-challenged folk it'll compensate. Is that the idea? Also: tube up on the underhood canister leading to the engine vacuum system and air fill nozzle behind the rear license plate. It's all a little confusing. Any Help? Thanks - Mike
