Which plant made your car Terry? My 70 was a Flint car and it had them.

Hey Larry, did you ever try a 1/2" spacer to see if that was enough?

I have the HEI with an Edelbrock Performer intake and Edelbrock carb and I just restored and installed a factory GM 4bbl air cleaner set up. The only mod I had to make is to use the 1" spacer between the carb and the air cleaner for clearance. It all still fit well, and hood clearance was no problem either.

I finished restoring the original air cleaner and successfully installed it. -
In the interest of full disclosure, I did finally find out what this was...believe it or not, a bad ball joint on the driver's side. It sure sounded like it was coming from the back, but the problem's gone.

Unfortunately, today I realized that my rear defog no longer works. It worked when I installed the switch in the "new" dash, but not now. Hmmm. -
Oh, man...I just noticed that I have the same Chevrolet Racing floor mats!

After putting a new battery in my truck this morning, I took the Monte for a ride. For a couple weeks, I've intended to snap some pics trying to get a little taste of Kentucky autumn color in with the car. I think I waited too long, but here are some of them: -
