I had one like that, green ,rust and all back in '83. I still loved it, after all is was a Monte! haha. True love of the cars.

ALOT of cars look like that around this part of the country. That's why sometimes we go south or west to find cars. Haha

Took it out and drove it to INDY today. Two trips in the last couple of weeks. Nothin' quite like a First Gen Monte eating up some road.

Patience is the MAIN thing to remember. FEEL your way through it, gentle not forcefull, take your time and don't get excited. Hard to do, but you can do it. Just be slooow when it comes to fragile things like guages,Dash, etc.

Oh yeah. Sweet project. Wow.

The buildsheet for my 1970 LS5 Monte SS shows RN in the Eng.(27) box, and CR in the Trans. (28) box ,for the TH400.

Hi Al , welcome !!! I joined the club and there are alot of GREAT people here. I have an original Van Nuys built '70 SS. It is totally original under the hood,except for plugs and plug wires, fuel line, and a vaccumn line or two(and battery,alternator). Valve covers have never been off. The carb is a 7040200. I'll get you some detailed pic's under there, but it may take a while, the weather sucks and I don't have alot of time on my hands right now. There is NO and I mean NO,"0", zilch , emissions on my car even though it is California built! That is, except for the PCV valve and heat risor, LOL. I don't know why, maybe because it was built in '69. I have the build sheet and I am 3rd owner. Second owner sold the car new in 1970 to the original owner. Give me a little time and I will get some pics to you. Scott.

I wonder if your bowl plugs are leaking off. I always JB them when I do a rebuild whether they show seepage or not. It would most likely be hard to start cold too though, if that were the case. Most likely perculating, as has already been mentioned.
