  1. Is the TH350 in a 1970 a short tail?
  2. Thanks everyone. The Chevelle links worked out great and set me in the right direction. The car is coming out of storage next week and it's time to get some tunes rolling.
  3. I bought my Monte with a crappy later-model GM radio installed. After buying a correct 1970 radio on eBay, it didn't seem to fit quite right. I find out (after trying to jam it in further than it's supposed to go) that there is a bezel that meets the burlwood to the radio face. It's somehow been removed. Does anyone have an extra they'd like to part with? I'm not sure if it was supposed to have been removed or did the previous owner really screw things up. Thanks! Joe
  4. Thanks for the info and pic. I'm considering buying the panels with only the speaker cut-outs and buying a set of JL Audio or Rockford Fosgate speakers. But the mounting depth is between 2 & 3" so I'd hate to buy these and then not be able to use the speakers because of inadequate rear spacing. It's a tough call. I'll have to remove mine and see if I can guesstimate how much room I have for bigger magnet/ deeper speakers. I'll update this thread if I find out anything new. Joe
  5. Has anyone installed the repop kick panels with the pre mounted speakers? I read a review on the OPGI where someone complained the set-up interfered with the emergency brake. Does anyone have info on that? Also, what depth speaker can you fit in there? The speakers that come pre installed look shallow, and I'd like to go with a better speaker (which means bigger magnet and deeper seating). I know this is an old topic but I didn't see any of this info in the threads. Thanks! Joe
  6. Thank you. I want to order it without having to remove it first to check the number. This was a huge help. Joe
  7. Does anyone have the GM part number for the printed circuit board for the idiot light dash (that idiot being me). I want to make sure I order the right one. I think the one that ends in 6 is idiot light and 7 is gauges. Thanks! Joe
  8. Sam thanks for this info. I contacted the place my wife bought it from and explained this just as you stated. They took the old one back and had a correct replacement drop shipped within a few days. It only cost me a few bucks to ship it. Considering how long it sat on my shelf in my garage while my Monte was being completed (at least over a year from when my wife bought it as a gift) I'm pleased that the company stood by their error. The new one is correct for SS dash and fits in the ashtray nice and snug. As a side note- the plug n chug only fits cans or the equivalent size cup. No big gulps or Weekender-size coffee mugs. I'll try to post a pick next time I use it.
  9. Two Montes from the club placed 2nd at Kempton,Pa show Sunday Oct. 27th 2013 Fantastic turnout of 281 cars in classes simply broken down by decade. Jay and Jenny Munday with their '70 and Joe Stavish (me) with my '70. Since the show was snowed out 2 yrs ago, they awarded 2 trophies for each place in each class. We brought home 2nd in 1970-79 class. There were a lot of nice cars at this show, making the peer judging pretty tough in each class. Nice to represent the Club and the cars.
  10. I bought the tool. This is a typical "3 Hour Tour" of a project. My turn signal mechanism was cracked inside and I have a brake light out on one side. (Turn signals, bulbs, etc are all fine). I have to replace all of this guts so I'm ordering the whole deal that includes all of the wiring, etc. I temporarily reassembled everything and didn't screw anything up worse than what I started with. Sort of. I reassembled the canceling cam, eyelet, and spring in the wrong order. Now when I turn the wheel in either direction, the horn blows. At least you can hear me coming around the corner! I found the diagram I needed for the sport steering wheel and horn assembly, so I can fix that pretty easily. My wife is still laughing about the "turn signal" horn thing.
  11. I see they make a tool for that. It seems pretty tough to push in. (And I did have my Wheaties this morning) I'm off to the parts store.
  12. Anyone know how to get this thing off? I am trying to fix/replace my turn signal canceling stuff and I'm stuck at this part... Help!!
  13. Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to return it. The outlet that she bought it from sells only Monte parts so they should fix their website. If they don't take it back, I'll ebay it for Chevelle owners.
  14. About the plug and chug: My wife (at my "suggestion") bought me a plug and chug for non-SS model last Christmas. I suppose there is some difference in the ash tray in SS vs non-SS ashtrays. Mine is non-SS. Based on the simple removal of the metal ash tray portion, and insertion of the cup holder, you would think something else needs to be removed, as the part that you insert hits against the back of the empty ash tray. This makes the exposed cup holder part stick out too far. So, after trying to remove the entire ashtray assembly, I knew then that that wasn't part of the simple "plug and chug" motif. I reassembled the ash tray (less the metal insert) and tried to figure things out. It's too old to return to the place she ordered it from, plus there is a slight scuff on it. I think I need a wider and shorter insertion portion to fit tightly inside of the ash tray. (Maybe that is the SS ashtray dimention.). I may have to shorten the insertion part and maybe put a couple pieces of Velcro-loc like they use on my ezpass mount. That will secure it and you won't see the part attached to the ashtray once its closed. Like I said, if I could return it for a better fitting unit, I would. It would probably fit much tighter. But I think you'd have to secure it in the ashtray regardless because it you pull out fast, it might slide out and spill your beverage. So far I give it a "C" but might upgrade that once I modify it. I'll keep pluggin' on this so I can keep chuggin'!
  15. By the way, my brother has one of these consoles (link below) in his 55 Bel Air wagon. For anyone with a bench seat, they are very nice. I saw them at Fall Carlisle and they are very well constructed. And they strap around the underside of the seat, out if sight. The link below has all of the colors you can order. http://www.cupholdersplus.com/product/chevelle-center-console-cup-holder/BC-Chevelle.html
  16. Thanks! I'm hoping to get out in the garage today to work on it. I do, however, have a ton of yard work to get to today. I'll post pics once I get it installed. It's a nice piece. Only holds cans or small cups, the holders don't accommodate anything larger.
  17. Thanks! I'll get in there tomorrow.
  18. My wife got me a plug n chug cup holder that slides into my ash tray slot. Pretty cool. How the heck do I remove the entire ash tray without cracking or breaking something trying to get the entire assembly out? I popped it out to a point, but the entire thing has to be unhooked/removed for this gizmo to be inserted. Any tips? Thanks!
  19. Thanks! I've seen those conversion kits and I may go that route. I'm installing this Friday before heading out to Carlisle. My old alternator sounds like a Cuisinart.
  20. Good morning! I recently purchased a 100 amp alternator at Spring Carlisle. I am going to do the switch from external to internal voltage regulator. The problem is the alternator has the #1 and #2 terminals marked, but the R and F designations seem to be reversed (based on a lot of the blogs I've seen regarding wiring up the new alternator...) Most state the the #1 lead is the field, and the #2 lead is the relay (sense). On this alternator I purchased, the #1 is marked "R" and the #2 is marked "F". So which is it? When I purchased the nice $2 GM alternator plug at PepBoys to slide right onto those leads, the red wire goes to the "F" lead on the unit. (It only goes in one way so I can't reverse it) Anyway, see picture below. Any info would be great. I can't find the business card of the company I bought it from. (Murphy's Law applied)
  21. Thanks for the great info. I wasn't sure if I needed any BA 9 bulbs as well. I'll check out the Amazon kit today. I'm going with white bulbs for the gauges but thought the turn signal and idiot lights would stand out more with green and red bulbs respectively. The prices at Carlisle for LEDs were rediculous.
  22. I would like to convert to LED as well. (Although I'm not concerned about the ability to dim the bulbs) Does anyone know how many of each type/style of bulb needed to convert a 70 dash with idiot lights? I'd like to buy the bulbs first and do the conversion in one shot. There is a kit on eBay that has green, red and white LEDs in one nice kit. They are all 194 bulbs. eBay item number 271194720738 Thanks
  23. I voted 3 times- just like I did back in November!
  24. The top is black vinyl, paint is original color but not same in terms of the metallic sheen. This paint has many different shades depending on the light. So technically isn't not 100% GM finish, but I think it looks better. Clear coat is from House of Kolor. The tires are 255/60-15x8 rear, 225-70-15x7 front.
