DDay
I'm thinking of a big block conversion. I have located a1976 454 4bolt complete. Would this be a good start for a build or should I look for an earlier motor. I would like 450 to 500 hp. Thanks, Don
dbreese
Hey Don, Glad to see ya back!! If the block and crank/rods check out good you got a good base. Some good aluminum heads/intake and a mild hydraulic roller and your goal would easily be obtained with pump gas and have some stump pulling torque. I'm sure the B/B gurus will chime in and give you some choices on parts that will get ya there. David
GatorDog72
Do you know what it came out of? Mine was a 73 454 out of a pickup and had open chamber heads and dished pistons. Very low compression. Smog engines of that era were very choked out from the factory. Just bump the compression and get a hyd. roller cam and 500 hp should be easy to make.
