So I'm in the process of putting my interior in, few questions, I bought my carpet from opgi and it has no holes in it for seats and no whole for the gear shifter, do I just fit it then cut where needed? Also I am going from a bench too buckets and a console, the console just rubs a little on part of the 4spd hump also just doesn't seem too want too sit 100% any suggestions? Also the front looks like it screws directly too the tunnel but the back needs some sort of bracket made up I'm guessing?

Thanks man, hey how did you figure out where your transmission hump and console bracket were supposed too go? My humo seems shaped too sit but looks like it needs just slight tweaking but the console does slightly rub on drivers side on the 4spd hump, and does the front just screw into the tunnel?

It would help to see some photos of your transmission hump because the console should fit without modification. I suspect correct positioning is all you may need. The correct rear mounting bracket should raise the rear of the console enough to eliminate any fit issues.

I have attached a number of photos below that may give you some guidance on positioning. First, you can see how a factory 4-speed console is mounted with the rear bracket location and the front mounting holes in the transmission tunnel.

The front of the console is mounted directly to the tunnel with sheet metal screws (see photos). You can get a rear console mounting bracket (needs to be welded to the floor pan) from Year One at https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964-72-chevelle-monte-carlo-el-camino/cp161 There may be other sources for that bracket as well.

Good luck with the project - you will love the end result.

The rear bracket should be 17 1/2 inches from the back of the bracket to the top of the floor pan where it bends upward where the back seat sits. That is a good start point. Set the console and adjust from there. Put top plate on and check for clearance as you shift thru the gears. In neutral the shifter should be centered front to back and slightly closer to the right (pass. side) of opening in top plate. I saw the measurement of the rear bracket on a Chevelle forum. Someone asked the same question.
