earle54
OK, have a 71 with stock 2.73-non-posi I believe. Want to upgrade to 3.42 or maybe 3.55. Upgraded with top end-kit & now want to turn it up a notch with the gear change. Nothing crazy just want a good balance for street/highway cruising, without a huge budget. Local transmission joint says it does this type of work. So,is it simply a matter of changing the carrier from a 2 - 3 series along with the gears themselves ,or is there more to it than that ? All advice is much appreciated !
Sam (Bones)
if you want a positraction, a new carrier would be needed for what you are looking to do...a 3.31 gear is a great choice, but not the easiest ratio to find if you can't find a 3.31, then I would opt for the 3.42 unless you are planning on using an overdrive transmission then I would opt for a 3.55 or 3.
earle54
So, I don't even have to change the carrier if I'm not going with posi ? Any brand suggestions ? Maybe Yukon ? Thanks Sam, I think I'll go will go with the 3.42.
