Guest larrydday
How can you tell which automatic transmission you have in your car? I have a 1970 with a reworked 350. The transmission has a stall converter in it but I don't know what transmission. I need to replace the speedometer cable and they are asking what transmission is in the car. The cable in the car now will not connect to the transmission and it leaks oil. I thank you in advance for any and all help given.
Guest 72yellowmc
well if your car was an original 350 car then it should be a turbo 350 trans. There is a way to tell the diference betweem and chevy th 350 & 400, just can't think of the bolt pattern on the pans right now, you could go online and find out this info pretty easy......... sorry, I was a lot of help... Ian
And if you are not sure if it is the original transmission check here for the way to tell them apart by the shape of the pan. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/PanShapes.htm
kc8oye
a 400 has a very odd-shaped pan IIRC ... very irregular. the th350 has a square pan with one corner 'knocked off' you can also tell by looking at the right rear corner, if it has a 'can' with a vacuum line attached, it's a 350.
