kc8oye
I'm looking at FireWire video converters to use with my laptop (it has the 4-pin IEEE 1394 port) Can a 6pin firewire unit be used with an 'adapter' or adapter cable to work with the 4pin in the laptop? I noticed that the slightly more expensive unit ($209 vs $189) provides more in/out options, but also, has both the 4pin and 6pin connections.. and a user comment says it has an external power connection for 4-pin firewire connections.. so can I asume that 4 and 6 pin are the same with the exception that 6pin can provide power to the 'slave' device? Ian
Yep that is the difference, check here for more info than you can handle on firewire and the different specs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire
kc8oye
thanks ian my laptop has the 1394 port, so I figure I might as well use it and enjoy the extra speed over usb 2.
Ian
Yep it is faster. My external Drive has both and it is much faster on Firewire...
kc8oye
I want to be able to use my Digital camera for the video.. but provide my own audio (That's why I want the video converter) also, if the camera isn't "Recording" it will let me zoom :> so I can work around not having a $5,000 video camera with a $200 video converter and my laptop.. not a bad trade off for now I dont' think.
