sendo
hello i am new here and to classic cars. couple of questions, when someone says matching numbers car does it mean it has the original engine? if so someone selling a car saying matching numbers with no engine & tranny is not making sense. if you buy a car with no engine you can't make it a matching numbers car right? also buying a rolling shell that the guy says it is a 454ss and has a build sheet make it worth more then a plane monte that is just as striped? hope this make sense thanks, sendo
Shadow Gray SS
I would say mathing #'s implies all original drivetrain included. I have seen someone say "engine is # matching" which means to me original tranny & rear have been swapped. I would say a documented SS shell is worth more than a non-SS shell. You can still put a period/date correct drivetrain in.
sendo
so on a shell the only thing that is 454ss is the vin? the frame and body are the same? how much will it be worth ballpark?
Shadow Gray SS
There is nothing special about the VIN either, no way to tell it is an SS from the VIN unfortunately. There may be some of the other SS goodies present: shock protectors, larger stabilizer bars, boxed control arms and though not limited to SS cars you may find some air ride components. Hard to say on value, really depends on condition and what all is still with the car.

sendo
thanks again, one last question. same condition cars just the shell no interior nothing to tell them apart, maybe the ss have the shock protectors haven't seen the bottom.both needs a lot of work, the regular monte 1500, the 454ss 3000 is the price difference worth it? Shadow Gray SS
For me, no. There are other cars out there I would look at. There is a running SS in our for sale forum that is around 9k, much better option IMO if you have the $$$ here
