bdk70monte
Anyone have some engine pics of a 1970 402 with a stock set up? I'm going to be dropping a big block in my Monte at some point and have decided to go with a stock appearance, although I'm sure I'll have some upgraded internals at least. Most Montes I see have been dressed up under the hood so I was just curious if anyone had some pics of how the 402 originally looked under the hood of a 70 Monte. monte70car
I don't have a stock stock picture of a 402 motor my has an alum. intake which should be cast iron for stock. The stock valve covers probably would be stamp steel covers painted orange, air cleaner would be a close style air cleaner with a oval snorkel tube. The valve covers would have triangle washers under the hold down bolts.
bdk70monte
Very good, thanks guys. I see your 72 has a 402 air cleaner decal. I think the 70 Monte was marked with 400 though wasn't it? I know they still had Chevelles badged as SS 396 in 70 since that's what everyone knew them by. Keep them coming if anyone else has any pics. monte70car
Yea the 402's in the Montes were marked as 400's should say turbo-jet on the decal.
Monteman1971
In 72 the 402's actually didn't come with any decal at all on the air cleaner. My 71 402 had the one piece silver "400" decal. Steve
