You can either shift in/out of overdrive manually with a button or headlight dimmer switch (on floor)......or you can have it set to engage automatically as an OD gear at a chosen MPH speed. I don't have one, but based on my discussions with them for planning ahead on my project this is what I found out. Besides gear splitting, a TH400 with Gear vendors will ultimately give you the same gear ratios as a 2004R in a much more stout package. Especially if the TH400 is built.
