monte70car
On our 57 Chevy we have the stock style rear end pumpkin comes out of the front. The drain plug had started leaking a few years back so we changed it for a rubber type plug and changed the gears from a 3.08 to a 5.13 back to a 3.70, but we torn the rubber plug with the jack. We did but a self threading plug which is a 1/2-20 drilled the hole I think he said 1/2" but the plug wont thread into the housing, a 9/16 drill bit is way to big for the plug. We also picked up a rubber water jacket plug but its to big 3/4" anyone run into a problem like this before?
Mike 57
If you bought a 1/2 inch plug I would think that the hole drilled would have to be 15/32 according to the tap drill chart. Unless it is a oversize plug. What is the outside diameter of it?
monte70car
The plug has outside diameter of .
Mike 57
Sounds like an "oversize" plug, you can try to taper the outside of the hole to get it started. the best bet would to be to take the pig back out, get a regular size 1/2 inch plug an tack a 1/2 jam nut on the inside to hold it.
