  1. Too bad, it looks real nice. I see it has interior from a 71.
  2. Welcome to the club. Thanks for joining.
  3. I saw what you did Joe. Thanks for cleaning it up.
  4. This rant was brought on by the 70 3 spd column shift barn find Monte in the cars and parts for sale leads section. Thought this was a better place for it. What classifies as a barn find? It seems there’s some sort of mystique to the title. Most barn finds are in garages or sheds. But to be true to the title, I’ll refer to them as barns. I’d have to say that 99.9% of the vehicles were never lost to begin with. Unless the barn was owned by a recluse that passed with no family, there is always something who knows what’s in there. Most barn finds are offered for sale by someone who purchased them from the owner or owner’s family that owns the vehicle and the barn. This brings me to my second question. Does the seller have to show the vehicle in its grungy “found” condition to certify it as a “barn find”? If it makes them happy, then one “as found” photo should be enough. Then clean it up and don’t be skimpy with the photos.I remember seeing coverage of one of the big car show/exhibits that had a barn find catagory. Boy those things must be tough to show without disturbing all that as found grunge. When I sell something I try to make it as appealing as possible. A good days worth of cleaning on that 70 3 spd would make it so much more attractive to someone looking but can’t see past the grunge. Ok, that’s good, I feel better now.
  5. I like it. I see it’s a Van Nuys car. Wish there were more photos though. Except for the rear deck, which looks like it has just a towel draped over it, the interior could be cleaned and the carpet replaced and that part of the project is done.
  6. Well I’m quite sure I don’t like it. I’m sure they have a ton of money in it but that 1 1/2” cut in the roof just blows the proportions in my opinion. Plus I took advantage of the zoom and was not impressed with the build quality. I’m sure the competition wasn’t too stiff to get that best of show.
  7. Looks like a good deal for that money. If I was in the market, i think I’d be looking into that one. That scissor jack has me a little perplexed.though. Is it there to keep the subwoofer located?
  8. Welcome Randy, I think you’ll be pleased with your decision to join and I hope to see some photos.
  9. Boy that came out nice. I’ve seen so many where that rich warm color is bleached out from the sun. Thanks for the info.
  10. What is the difference in the burl wood bezel between the 72 and the 2 previous years other than the seatbelt warning? Otherwise would they be interchangeable? The reason I ask is because I had thought that warning was exclusive to 72s, but my 71 has at least the seatbelt warning “window”, which led me to believe that maybe the bezel has been replaced because there is no working light or buzzer. Not sure what triggers the warning because my first 71 didn’t have that.
  11. Having a 4 post lift, the 2 things that immediately caught my eye was the magnetic strip lighting and the rolling bridge jack. Been looking at bridge jacks for awhile, while saving to get one. Never heard of that brand so I got to their web site and liked what I saw so I contacted them and I’m waiting for a reply. Definitely going to get that magnetic strip lighting. What a great idea.
  12. It appears to be 735 Saddle. The code is on the Body tag on the cowl. Second row of numbers on the upper left side of the tag. Starts with TR. Don’t know how to do links but someone here will probably post the link to how to decode the body tag. Welcome to the club.
  13. I was referring to the ones Dennis was showing for sale.
  14. Interesting vents on the cowl. Never seen those before. Looks like billet.
  15. The only thing I don’t see is where to put the oil. Also no breather holes. It seems that 68 was the last time I’ve seen the oil fill at the front of the intake manifold.
  16. In my opinion, those are the best looking valve covers out there. They were factory stock on 69-70 Z/28s. Seen them on the Corvettes of the same years. They’re still available through NPD, Rick’s First Generation Camaro and others. A bit pricey. Around $400/pr.

    Plant

Leeds plant, Kansas City MO. My first 71 was a Van Nuys car. The Van Nuys plant was demolished in 1998. A shopping center, named “The Plant” resides there now.
  18. Welcome to the group Jim. It’s very thoughtful of you to go through the process of trying to find the current owner just to give them additional info and paperwork on the car. Most would’ve trashed it. Hope you find it. Of course if you’re looking for a Monte for yourself also, there’d be no harm in asking.
  19. I know you said you didn’t want any projects but is it important that you get a real 4 speed car or would a conversion be acceptable? That would give you a much better selection of colors and interior choices (buckets or bench). I would think it would be less than a real one in equal condition even if you had someone do the conversion for you. There are other members much wiser than I that will hopefully have more input on this subject.
  20. Greetings from sunny So Cal. Well this wasn’t in the forecast. Been 2 years since we’ve had this. About 4 1/2” overnight.
  21. No going through the drive thru with that.
  22. The Covette looks like the 2024 Ridler winner. Dave Kindig build.
  23. For that price, it’s definitely worth a closer look.
  24. Google Alan Grove Components. The number Vintage gave me was 913-837-4368.
