I’d use the jack to get off the ramps too.
-
As for the ramps wanting to slide, I’ve found it’s less eventful and safer to use your floor jack to jack the car up, then slide the ramps under.

2 classics for sure.

Welcome Steve, great looking Monte.

It seems to be at least a year since I’ve seen this one. Can’t forget the separate photo of the armrest pad and door pull strap escutcheon missing from the passenger door. Were the factory welds on the lower trailing arm boxing inserts that sloppy? Highly questionable that it’s a real one. Even with if it was, with all the mods it would be pretty much meaningless. Except for the SS emblem and the stripes, it looks pretty nice though.

Unfortunately, probably 95% of this stuff is imported. The rolling bridge jack I’ve been saving for to use with my 4 post lift went up $700 about 2 months ago. Because of the timing, I can’t help but wonder if these tariffs didn’t have something to do with it. Needless to say, it’s on the back burner now.

That’s the one.

The trim removal tools, $12–$15 work well. Made mine out of a putty knife off a photo of one. Then finally bought one which worked equally to the one I made. There is a pointed hook that slips between the trim and the glass. It’s pretty much done by feel. The tool is slid along the trim until it stops on a clip. Then it’s rocked back slightly to bend back the clip which disengages it from the trim. There are some videos on you tube which are pretty good.

Nice looking car. I’m with Jim on the color. Pick up in Ohio

Good point. That kinda sucks.

Welcome Mike, good group here. I’m sure this gets asked of you a lot, but is there any relation to Jim?

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Nice work, and I like your method for holding the hinges down and out of the way. -
Good looking car. Really like the interior. Like the stance. Either it’s been lowered in front or the coils were never changed when swapping the SB for a BB. Price seems fair too. Just wondering about access to the heat+AC controls.

The description made me laugh. Barn find provenance? Fully gone through with a careful preservation minded approach? A rare example of original charm? True Virginia barn find? So what they’re saying is they were careful not to harm any of that true Virginia barn find crustiness when fully going through it. Wouldn’t want to harm that rare barn find provenance. WOW!

Welcome to the club Chris.

Welcome Barry, post some photos when you can.

Our first car show with the Monte Carlo

Congratulations! Looks like a great place for a show. I’m with you on that parking lot thing. -
The only thing I got out of the 3 paragraphs under vehicle description is that it’s light green. Wonder how much wiggle room they allow on the price. Would’ve like to see underneath. Groovy

It’s amazing to me that some of these guys lived so long, because PPEs were pretty much non existent in their early years. I think of all the chemicals from parts cleaners to the various fuels his engines ran on, along with machine oils and who knows what else. Gene Winfield passed in early March, he was 97 and so much of what he did was painting and working with lead. I grew up in the cabinet industry and for many years we never wore eye protection, particle masks or respirators. It seemed no one thought much about it. Things really started to change 25-30 years ago. Insurance companies had a lot to do with it. A lot of damage had already been done though.

I don’t understand how a car could be titled using the vin from a known replacement door because the dash vin is not readable. Here in California, a vin verification is required if bringing a vehicle from another state or if the vehicle fell out of the system do to a certain number of years of non registration.

Congratulations on your purchase. That’s a nice one. Post some more photos when you get it settled in. Is that the one you are thinking of going to a black top on?

Installing OEM Air Cleaner and Valve Covers

The thermostat housing. -
The issue I have with these so called dyes is that they really aren’t. They’re top coats. There is no penetration as you would have with a fabric dye. Chances are that during its life, that top has had protectants applied that contain silicone, which is an adhesion nightmare. There may be some prep materials out there that won’t harm the vinyl that you could use to strip any contaminants out. IMO I just don’t see any vinyl coating holding up very long in an exterior environment especially black because it gets so hot. If it were me, I’d wait until I could replace the top. I don’t mean to be the fly in your beer. With that said, If you’re prepared to replace the top anyway, then I guess there’s no harm in trying.

Ford offered them as an option In 55 although they’ve been around longer than that. They were mandatory in 68. The broadcast sheet on my 64 Buick shows the front belts checked, but not the rear.
