  1. Actually your tail housing 39788764 shows 70-74, 32 spline output which is correct for an M20, M21, M22. What was you part number again? Starts with a P like in my pics earlier. I'm guessing an incorrect mounting plate was used, but a few calls to Hurst or a Muncie shop (David's, Wright Connection)should clear it up.......
  2. My tail housing is 3857584. I've also found this document and it sure looks like you possibly have an M22?? https://summitracing.custhelp.com/ci/fat...on+id+chart.pdf
  3. This Muncie was built March 24, 1970. It has more than 3 holes...
  4. Good point Sam, will do! The process will start this weekend or next for sure, just waiting on a few parts from Leo but I just as well get started on removing all the old stuff...........
  5. Just picked up my M20 from being rebuilt and Hurst shifter mounted. Asked Ed, Muncie guy, about your situation and if a Saginaw tail can be mounted on Muncie main case and he said no way but if it did, nothing would line up inside......I then explained the issue of your shifter sticking way up high and he said common problem! Wrong mounting plate, the plate between the shifter mechanism and the tranny. He said people used the wrong ones or made something goofy. Saginaw mounting plate used on a Muncie tranny, Hurst mounting plate used with a Muncie shifter, etc, etc... Ol' ED has been rebuilding Muncie's and Saginaws since the mid 60's (according to him) He's quite the old hotrodder.
  6. http://www.firstgenerationmontecarlo.com...6317&page=1 This link is to a previous post I had started when I bought my Muncie M20, scroll down to the pics I show of the tranny..
  7. Excellant eye Darren! Your exactly correct, its a Saginaw.
  8. http://www.firstgenmc.com/photopost/data/500/medium/photo_4_1.JPG This photo is compliments of "Bones" in which he and I have hashed this stuff over many times..........THX SAM!
  9. Thanks Mike, it's been buffed but its a 16+yr old paint job, original Burnt Orange, I think the credit goes to the camera I was using that day........I'll check for other pics. THX!
  10. Your not alone Patrick, it's the little stuff like that that drives me crazy! Anyway, I had the similar problem, plus I wanted to get the bumper tucked in close to the body. I slightly elongated the mounting holes on the brackets to help tuck it in close and as far as correct height, I added a thick washer or 2 to lower the bumper mount to the frame on the right side so it matched up with the left side.............Good Luck! Tucked in nice and Tight!
  11. Can we get a pic, Bob? Ironically, I'm working on repairing a steering wheel. Is it the hard plastic or the softer vinyl wheel?
  12. Was this used due to the length of the shaft?
  13. Noticed the driveshaft on my 71 SBC355 w/TH350, has a large round device at the front of the driveshift where the yolk attaches to the tranny. Is this a balancer or what is it? Is it needed due to the length of the shaft? Just curious....
  14. Will do Leo, sorry I didn't think to call you 1st! Need the rubber shifter boot and mounting chrome bezel to fit a non-console hump. I'm keeping the bench seat, also can you get the foam for the front bench seat? Just need the bottom non-bolster version. I'll send a PM........
  15. I agree Sam, but their catalog/website is a good reference (most of the time)
  16. I didn't check them....thx!
  17. Can't seem to find the correct shifter boot/mounting ring, I'm adding the tunnel plate shown on this link: http://www.opgi.com/monte-carlo/1971/sheet-metal-body-panels/floor-pans/A62551B/ The top face were the boot ring mounts is 8" square, which boot are you guys using in this situation? The Hurst one I wanted is way to small..........
  18. Opening either door should allow for all 3 lights to illuminate (2 under the dash & 1 dome light)Also, twisting the light switch on the dash should produce the same results when the doors are closed.
  19. White wire goes to the door switch, orange should have 12volts. When the door is open, it completes the circuit when the switch plunger pops out making the lights come on.
  20. Sounds like the OPG part, Larry. This what I install a few years back when it was only available in Black and $20 cheaper! http://www.opgi.com/monte-carlo/1970/interior-accessories/package-tray/RSS62/
  21. Matt, I've purchased the Hurst shifter & linkage kit that Sam mentioned earlier but I was having the same questions about the reference to 452/453. I had called Hurst and found out that the 452 is the M20/1 and the 453 is the M22. If my memory hasn't failed me! I have it written down at home but just call them, they were very helpful.
  22. Hey Rock, I've seen a lot of different methods on the package tray, I like the contrasting color option. I also liked the idea of using vinyl w/foam backing (1/8") it makes it slightly puffed up which hides any wrinkling and it's a breeze to clean vs cloth!
