  1. Hey Mike, I'm using two. I had tried the 1 spring method but didn't care for the feel plus I wanted to insure the adjustment rod from the fork was always snug. Here's a photo I have of current setup before the headers went on, the 2nd spring (not shown) went from Z-bar to the frame as shown in the photo from the manual. Good Luck!
  2. Mike, I too have used the kit offered by Sonnie, the quality is excellent and has good instructions. Dennis' link is very helpful to clarify Sonnie''s instructions. Sonnie's kit uses an AMP gauge, Shift works has a VOLT gauge, totally different wiring. I sent my AMP gauge out to be converted to VOLTS, my preference.....Shift works didn't offer this package when I did my conversion. Good luck!
  3. Mike, my 71 was a column shift automatic, I have not swapped the steering column (yet),but I wired the shift lever at the bottom of the column so it is always in PARK. I did not install a reverse lockout either. I'm the only driver of my Monte so depressing the clutch pedal at start up is natural for me growing up with manual trannys. I installed a new Hurst shifter and purchased the Hurst reverse light switch that mounts on the linkage,so wiring to the connector on the column was cake. I`m currently on vacation in Branson,MO but when I get home I can send more details with photos....Good Luck! Murphy
  4. Good morning Mike, as Darren mentioned, he is right on the mark. The drive shaft in your Monte will work if you use in correct bellhousing. Definitely get the u joints replaced and shaft Rebalanced. The crossmember is actually different but I used my stock one and drilled additional holes in the frame for mounting. Also will need new trans mount. Good luck, you'll love it!
  5. Chris, you don't need to remove the entire dash, just loosen to pull forward to remove gauge cluster. You will need to drop the steering column & let it rest on the seat. Dash pad must be removed first. There are instructions in the archives, just take it slow....
  6. I replaced my clock with a shift works Tach, excellent part & instructions. Just insure you order the correct one for correct color lighting, 70 = green, 71/72 = white. Looks completely stock!
  7. Just sent you a PM Joe.........here's a photo ,already refurbished.
  8. Hey Joe, I remember talking with you about 2yrs ago about refurbishing your trim............I'll check to see if I have a spare script.
  9. Here's a sweet option...........427 https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/pts/d/boltblock-copos-b1/6263268735.html
  10. I purchased the gear set, $100, they look excellent. I have found that they were an option on many cars from Chevelles to Camaros to Impalas, as these are dated 1967.
  11. I've found a set of GM rear gears dated 1967 that are in excellent condition, I've been trying to figure out which cars they came from with not much luck. Found one reference to station wagons, looking for any input?
  12. A guy I meant several times a car show has used these guys twice with excellant results......... www.steeringcolumnpros.com
  13. Lots of them around if you wish to rebuild or have one rebuilt. Craigslist show many of them here in Phoenix.
  14. Chris, I have the same setup & added a 1.5" spacer (plastic) which sits on top of the carb and gave the air cleaner the clearance needed to sit properly. I believe I got it at O'Reilly Auto parts...
  15. Thanks Robert!

  19. Thinking about making or acquiring a dual snorkel air cleaner. Looking for 2 402 or 454 base pieces. Have several sbc air cleaners but would like a larger snorkel, I know there's lots of after market choices but looking for options.......Thanks.
  20. Hey DOug, I've been told these guys are the ones to trust even tho I've never used them........ https://originalair.com/about-poa-valves
  21. Found this diagram in the Assembly manual (lower left corner show 6 wires) con't find the wiring diagram at this point. Each connector is keyed to only connect at the proper location.....good luck! Monte diagram 01.bmp
  22. You realize this is only a dash cap that fits over the original dash pad....
  23. What Larry said! SEM trim black is a perfect match and I've refurbished a lot of trim pieces...........
  24. Steve, shouldn't need to remove dash, possibly the ashtray tho.. Once you remove the knobs, you'll see the nut that holds the radio to the dash. There is a rear bracket that supports the rear of the radio. I beleive I had removed the ashtray to gain better access and see what is up in this tight space....Good Luck!
  25. Hey Don, had the same coil problem with my 71,new Napa coil & wires and we'really back on the road! I did eventually go with HEI setup which has been a vast IMPROVEMENT!
