  1. If you dont plan on running a lot of RPMs I would go with an oval port set up... Car craft just did a test with a few sets of big block oval port heads. Edelbrock and trick flow were the cheapest yet made as much power as the more expensive heads. With the cam your running I think it would be the same story with you. They say in the article if they had more cam the other heads would have made more power.... Judging by what I read I would go with Trick Flow... They seem to be a little better than the Edelbrocks... Edelbrocks are 1800 and the Trick Flows are 2100.... On these tests with the oval port heads they peaked HP between 5500-6000 RPMs and peak torque was about 4000. Just a thought Tom You can get a lot of power out of irons worked over a bit... Im gonna try to run a turbo on my worked over irons...
  2. I think a 2k converter is a good all around converter... unless you start making a bunch of power and get into a lot of track time... Tom My bro has a 2200 ish converter in his camaro with a 700r4 and you can barley tell the difference between that and the stock one... Deffinetly dont want to much converter on the street though... it can become annoying... I have a 3k+ converter in my Monte and with 3.31 gears and a 28 inch tire it does over 3k RPMs on the highway and doesnt accel very well when your already movin... Thats why Im goin to an overdrive trans and will prolly do a little less converter but prolly not to much... Tom
  3. I have the light weight hood so I cant use springs... pin on only... I have lost a few pins because I take them off then start the car and maybe drive it with the hood off testing something... sucks getting new pins all the time... really sucks haveing to take the hood off and put it back on everytime I want to do something to the engine... will really suck when I paint it and cant just throw the hood on the roof Oh well thats the price you pay to save a few more pounds... Havent forgotten to put the pins back in after I put the hood on... that would really suck!! Tom
  4. Hey 72MC if you dont mind me askin... How much are you payin for that trans? I think Im gonna try and give them a call tomorrow but Im curious... Thanks, Tom
  5. Just wondering where you guys in Ohio get your transmissions rebuilt.... Guy that I have used a few times is getting on my nerves so I want to check into a few others if its possible... Need a street/strip 4L80E done with a converter.. Thanks, Tom
  6. What do you guys think the HP loss difference is between a 4L80E and a 700R4? 680HP.... what all do you have done to your 700R4 to hold that much power? Trans guy is tellin me a 700R4 might hold upto what I want to do but I dont think he understands that I want to seriously try for about 750 HP with the turbo and beat the heck out of it.... Thanks guys, Tom What would you guys do if you had a 4L80E? Would you build it say after everything is said and done you have about 1700 in it or would you build a 700R4 and have about 1500 in it but possibly not hold up for more than 2 years....? Thanks, TOm
  7. There is a BBC twin turbo set up for sale on the turbo web page Im talking about.. www.turbomustangs.com You have to register and log in then it will bring up a members classified section... The turbo set up is like 3 pages in I think... Expencive though $4500 OBO but includes everything for a bunch of power... Tom
  8. which ever way they will work.. I held them up next to the headers to get a visual... I think both ways worked but cant remember... Why?
  9. Maybe but Im doing it a pretty easy way I think... Using two stock BBC manifolds, turning them around to face forward... Then using exhaust pipe to goto the flange for the turbo. Was gonna try to find headers or try to build some but I have heard this will work so I figure what the heck, Ill give it a shot Got some manifolds off ebay for 10 bucks The turbo will be in the same location that meanmonte's is and the exhaust will be run the same way. Tom
  10. Im mostly going with the turbo because I can buy parts over time instead of having to spend about 3k all at once... Plus there arent a lot of people I hang out with that have turbos... Couple have superchargers but no turbos. I like being different Thats one reason I chose a Monte Carlo 11 years ago... Wow Ive had this car a long time... Tom
  11. S475MM is only 600 bucks so I will atleast get that turbo... just asked Dave what a S480 would cost... But 600 bucks doesnt seem to bad for lotsa power and knowing its gonna stay together... Ill keep ya posted on when Im gonna start getting serious about it... have to rebuild the trans before I do ANYTHING else... Thanks, Tom
  12. Also... What kind of lag do you have with the 1.32 A/R or did you get a smaller one?
  13. Hey meanmonte... Yes I have a screen name on the turbo forum, its Chevy5771. People over there were suggesting the S400... How much is an S475? Im not wanting to go over board on money because I have a lot of money to spend in other places before I try and add more HP. The only reason I started considering it is because I got a pair of exhaust manifolds cheap to use turbos and I have been wanting to do some kind of power adder. There is also the cheap chinese turbos I keep seeing on ebay... The T-66 for 250 bucks shipped keeps getting me thinking about getting it.... I asked a few people that bought them from the guy and they arent having any problems with them... They seem to flow enough for what I want to do, but I could be doing some really bad math... Im not very good at it anyway... I really wanted to do a twin set up since we Monte owners have so much room it wouldnt be a problem but I dont want to spend that much more money and run more lines and piping... Also I would love your help when the time comes! I have no idea what Im doin Tom The "T-66" turbo Im looking at on ebay is; Compressor .66 A/R 81MM in/108MM ex and the Turbine is 1.05 A/R and 87MM You think if I wanted to try it and be a cheap [censored] it would work? I know I should prolly just spend the extra money and get the better known turbo but it would be a long time before I could come up with that much more money. Im outta cars to sell...
  14. Ive always said if I wreck this car I dont want to survive it... Turbo will help lol Just kidding of course, I know I will have to be careful with it.... I have never even owned a car with forced induction so it should be interesting for a while... Just pricing stuff and trying to plan it out a bit.. I still have A LOT of work to do to the car before I can put a turbo on it.. Gotta rebuild the 4L80, finish the rear end and upgrade the fuel system. Buncha money but I think it will be more than worth it! Tom
  15. There is a site, turbomustangs.com that i have been going to a lot... there are a few people running a single S400 turbos on BBC. They said that I should beable to build 10 psi by 3500 RPM... Prolly wouldnt be to bad since it is a street car and running full boost on the street would prolly be a little outta control Ill keep ya posted and see how it goes. Tom
  16. Hey guys Im planning on doing a single turbo I have been pricing everything and looking into it. Most people I talk to reccomend the S400 turbo. I know there is someone on here with one on a small block. I like the S400 and might go with it but it is $600 bucks and is very similar to another turbo that I can get for $250 bucks. I dont have the exact specs of the S400 but I do have some of the S480 which is close... The S480, Compressor is .66 A/R with 80MM inducer/114.1 exducer and the turbine is a 1.3 A/R with 88MM The turbo Im looking at is .66 A/R with 81MM inducer/108MM exducer and the turbine is a 1.05 A/R with 87MM What do you guys think? Thanks, Tom
  17. Looks cool So much work I think I would be afraid to drive it Tom
  18. I dont have a problem shifting it manually... and judging by what Ive seen for prices on a comp I will be Does it need a manual valve body or will it shift with me shifting it? I was gonna go with manual valve body in 700R4 if I got one so no big deal to me . I figured I would have to use a 4L80 converter was just hoping Anyone seen any decent converters for em under a grand? I am gonna have it rebuilt before it goes in the Monte... Im hopin trans guy can do it under a grand and find me a good converter cheap. So I figure Ill have about the same money in this as I would buying a 700R4. Thanks guys, keep the posts comin
  19. I think Im honestly about 500 HP right now and planning on a power adder which is what makes me afraid of the 700R4... The 4L80E came out in 1991, this trans is a 92. I know its a 4L80.. and at the very least if for some reason I change my mind I could sell it to my tranny guy for more than I paid for it...
  20. Planning on running a lot of power and if the converter wont work from the 400 like I dont think it will I am gonna go with a little less stall. If I have to run a computer its cool but Im hoping I could try to use a manual valve body... I wouldnt have a problem trying to run a 700R4 but I would have to replace everything anyway and the 4L80 is stronger Thanks, Tom
  21. Hey guys long time no talk.... Havent been on in a while been busy and havent messed with the Monte much since the tranny went out. Some of you might remember my TH400 went out on me a couple months ago after finally getting the car on the road. Anyway I was wanting overdrive because the TH400 with 3k stall even with 2.73 gears was reving at 3k at 60... I was gonna spend 2k on a 700R4 that could hopefully handle my big block but I came across a 1992 4L80E for a hundred bucks so I figured what the heck Ill take the little extra weight and know I can build it to handle the big block. Do you guys know what all I have to do to make it work in the Monte? Do I need some kind of computer to control it? Do you know if its a lock-up converter because if not do you guys think I could use my TH400 converter since they are almost the same tranny...? Also the yoke is bolted into the tranny... is there anyway I change it to slip on? Or am I better off with it bolted in? Thanks a bunch guys! Tom
  22. Wish I could have gone.... Sucks getting my Monte done finally and breaking it already... Cool that your running 9's now... sucks about the u-joint though... are they stock joints? Tom
  23. I love it!!! Very nice paint! Tom
  24. Reaper

    stock 10 bolt

A friend of mine has a truck with about 425-450 HP 454 and has a one wheel peel 10 bolt in it.... Doesnt hold up so well... His passenger side axle is twisted after driving it for about 2 years.... Guess it held up for a little while but eventually they break.... Tom
  25. Thanks guys... I will contact moser and see what it will cost both ways and see what they think.... Thanks, Tom
