  1. Bill, thanks for that info....If I went with those springs I could still use the pins in the hinge as insurance.....Were you able to stretch the springs on by hand??
  2. Sam, Robyn, Bill, Andreas and Phil (probably a lot of others too)...what hood springs are you guys using and where did you purchase them?. I'm using pins pushed through the hinge right now to keep it open and thats all good, but I would like to go with proper springs....AL
  3. It could be a BOP rear w/278's too..just a thought...many of our Montes came with them from the factory....Al
  4. Dont forget the "freight" charge upon delivery.
  5. Bill, nice skins!!
  6. Thanx for the 411 guys. Anyone know how to figure this one out?
  7. My cam specs are 230/236 duration and 490 lift.. I'm running 1.6 rr and I've read somewhere that the lift will increase to 523 w/the 1.6's. My question is does the duration increase as well?...just curious...Al
  8. Those posi marks look awesome!!....It looks like the front of my house! my neighbors just love me let me tell you..lol...AL
  9. hey guys how about a 275/50/15 on a 15x8 rally???
  10. Jrb, thats not the 1st time i've heard that but everyone I talk to and everywhere I read says to install one...they're not expensive and easy to install.... and i guess its worth piece of mind.
  11. yes, I may put it back one day..Thats a good idea though...I've heard of it being done before..I wonder how many members have done it???
  12. Cool Jim give me a buzz...502 , I already removed all the a/c stuff except for the coil thats staying put....In my last post I made a boo boo..I meant to say behind the radiator not in front...Al
  13. Thanx 502,I just finished looking thru the line of coolers from summit...there are a few that could be a possible fit..the one above looks great..I was hoping for someone to chime in with one already done in that exact place(in front of the rad. either right side or left). and their measurements..i need one cause Im running a stout 355 with a 24-2600 convertor...Dont want anything to start cooking...Al
  14. it looks like I only have room for on no more than 1.5in's thick.
  15. Can you turn it around and install it with the fittings on the bottom??
  16. I'd like to order a tranny cooler for my 70 and it doesn't seem that I have much room between the a/c coil and the front support area. So far I have measured 2x and it seems that I have at max...13in. H x 10in. W to play with...I'd really like to know what you guys are running in terms of brand, measurements and location...It seems like I have slightly more room to the right of the hood latch area between the a/c stuff and front support than the left. This and a carb is all I need to get up and running for the season!

    rear end

After a lot of surfing on the boards and elsewhere I have learned much about the types of rears that came in our Montes....My 70 came with a Pontiac 8.2....My build sheet reads....rpo code GU7 2.78's and I checked the #'s and codes on the rear which definitly are Pontiac...WC = Tempest/GTO/f-85 w/2.78..What everyone should know in order to upgrade this type of rear is this.....The BOP 8.2 Is definately a bolt in axle rear That has the 2 scallopes on the cover...There are "27" splines on the pinion and "28" splines on the axle....Auburn makes a posi unit with cone type mechanisms...this unit is the least expensive and cannot be rebuilt...Eaton now has a posi that uses friction plates instead of cones which is rebuildable but more $$...The ring and pinion for these rears are also more $$...Installation kits run the same for all types of rears....I found a package deal here in NY, Bohemia L.I... Eaton posi, ring and pinion(3.55,3.90,4.11 or 4.56)... no 3.73s and the install kit for $750.00....This isnt cheap but if you whant to keep your car #'s matching its the way to go.....One more thing if you are looking to go with 3.55's or bigger the carrier must be for 3.36's and >.....I hope this helps..I know I repeated some info here...I'm just looking out for all with this type of deal....Al
  19. Hey George, my friend gave me some never dull to use on all my trim pieces. It wasnt in the origional can and I didnt know if it would work or make things worse so I took a chance and used it..well I have to tell you all the chrome came out fantastic and the rocker moldings came up great too. If your interested in using the stuff I'd read the label 1st then go for it.

    Shift Kits

Hey Kc8, Just had my th350 rebuilt with the b&M shift kit(Street/strip). I actually picked the car up today. Took it for a test drive with the mech. and we both had a good laugh. With the bone stock motor and a dead 273 open rear the tire chirped from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to drive was nice and firm. The tranny is awsome. I stand behind a fresh rebuid and the B&M...Cant wait to set up the rear and build the motor now. Good luck ...AL
  21. Hey, I bought my 70 in Nov. and the car is as origional as origional can be. The master has the bleeders on both sides. It just started leaking so I purchased a relacement "Raybestos" (dont know about that spelling), its shorter, flatter and somewhat oval in appearance without any bleeders. It also has 2 fasteners that hold the cover down instead of just one. The bolt pattern lines up and the piston fits. Took it out for it's 1st ride and the pedal was nice and firm...No complaints....AL
  22. Hey guys ,just thought i'd add my 2 cents. I had a rear set up in my 81 Z28. 390's, richmond ring and pinion. My guy told me to go to a large parking lot ....do 10 figure 8's to the left and 10 figure 8's to the right... then stomp on it! Well, needless to say going from 256's to 390's felt like a shot of nitros oxide and everything else was great..Don't know if i'd do that with a fresh motor..Again, just my 2 cents...Al
