  1. Man! Is it normal to bury the trim clips with window sealant? I get that they don't want water to get in there but is it necessary to fill all the way flush with the windshield?
  2. The thing is that my cars body tag has "19 19" for the color code and the front and rear were 'in' the window channels but not over the trim clip studs. This is weird. Almost like one part of the assembly line read 'this is a vinyl top car' but another part didn't get that memo. Or it was a poorly attached dealer/aftermarket job made to work. ????? Oh well, just so I have extra material to actually utilize ALL the studs. Thanks.
  3. While your on this subject, am I good to go with a 2004r behind a 350 hp 327 with 3.55's? I have a 4L60-E by Monster in my 96 Silverado and a 700R4 in my 90 Silverado rebuilt by Transmissions By Bruce that I need to drop and install a pump I purchased from Bowtie Overdrives. I like them both but I never really 'worked' an automatic to the extent of rebuilding. So I'll leave it to the pros. Maybe some day I'll rebuild one for the experience but probably not. The only reason I'm retaining the auto setup in the Monte is that I'm sure my wife will want to drive it.
  4. Great! Now I feel better about 'modifying' the car.
  5. Have a 70 that will be receiving a new vinyl top. Car most likey came from factory without a vinyl top and was installed aftermarket. Existing top runs from front to rear window channels and is halo on the side just above the drip rail. Do after market tops contain enough material to cover complete roof from channel to channel and drip rail to drip rail?
  6. That would be a safety recall today if it came from the factory like that. GM would have told owners not to drive the car. They were likely removed at some point in the cars life and not reinstalled. Two questions: How many miles have you put on the car? Are you the original owner?
  7. Hi Jared, Im a subscriber to your channel. You do good work! Your videos are going to be very helpful.
  8. Thanks for the pics. That's exactly why I'm not doing any cutting until I have the new skin. So I can set it up on the roof, draw an outline and then cut old roof off and use it as a template to get the new skin close. A lot of fitting. New vinyl will go on next spring. Unless I don't need to do it in the sun??? Don't know how it's done today....
  9. Luckily, I'll be cutting a lot more of the new skin as my window channels are near perfect. Not going to mess with them. 'If it ain't broke..." And I'm able to not mess with the trim studs so that's a plus. The vinyl top was put on aftermarket and whatever sealant they used protected the window channels. What a pain to remove though. Too bad they didn't put it on the whole roof under the vinyl. Sure would like to know what happened/how they installed the top. What did they do? The only thing I can come up with is that whatever adhesive they used reacted with the paint??? And years of no maintenance added to the issue.
  10. Ok, want to run this roof skin plan by the experienced. This is not going to be a show car. A new vinyl top will be installed and all my perimeter metal is solid, including window channels. Finished foundational metal will get three coats of epoxy primer, skin also. Image 1 is the diagram, image 2 is the product used.
  11. Haven't even gotten to the wiring. Dome light and headlights work though.😁
  12. Thanks guys! If I had a big block rag joint it would have been THE reason to install a big block. Small block joint, small block engine! Less $$$ I have to spend.
  13. So, those are the typical 'buy full fender and cut out the section you need for a patch' type full aftermarket fenders? Got it!😂😂
  14. You are correct. But what kind of metal are they? And are the chrome peices for window and vinyl top stainless? Definitely magnetic.
  15. If the rag joint subject is the same as Chevelles then I have a small block rag joint anyways so mute point.
  16. Is the any way to tell if a 70 was originally a big block car from the factory in the absence of a build sheet. Like a different rag joint with Chevelles?
  17. Thank you. Yeah, I don't have those. Nor do I have a full halo top. 19 19 on body tag but vinyl goes from windshield to windshield and is studded clipped above windows and behind quarter glass and along deck filler. Screw clipped at bottom of sails only. Just trying to narrow down what happened. April built at Flint Assembly.

    Body tag info.

Man, why didn't the factory use epoxy primer back in the day......😂😂😂
  19. Canuck, what are the trim pieces below the headlights to which you are referring?

    Body tag info.

Of coarse, the vinyl didn't look like this either:
