  1. I woulda bet everything I own that you would’ve said sausage link.
  2. Welcome, Dave! Looks like you got yourself a very nice ride. As has been said before, this is a pretty cool group of guys who go out of their way to help with questions, suggestions etc. And be sure to throw us rabid dogs some more Monte Meat (pictures)!
  3. PS… are you able to drive with those things on??
  4. Why did you edit them out of the picture, Dennis? We all know already, so it’s no big deal…
  5. The plan for the ‘70 will be to return her to her former/original glory. I’ve gradually been accumulating parts here and there. I’ve got a set of drip rails cuz the ones on it now are presentable, but far from perfect. Also acquired the air cleaner (with the ‘CN’ sticker 😎), a new OE heat stove assembly, correct 4 core radiator and top plate, the right fan shroud (thanks to Dennis's scouring of eBay), the washer fluid monitoring system, a set of repop inner fender wells, a perfect set of trim rings and new OE air shocks. I also have a lead on the Vigilite system… still have to work that deal She arrived with her original intake, carb, distributor / rotor, fan, shock protectors and bumper guards. She’s also gonna need some new glass, window felts, weather stripping and seals and the dash and gauges redone. Paint and vinyl top and perhaps bumpers re-chromed. And I’m sure the list will only grow from here once the car is ripped apart. I’m gonna be consulting with a restoration business that I found up in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin a couple years ago. They were down here for the Chevy/‘Vette fest a few months ago and I stopped by their spot and checked out the cars they brought with. Also checked out some other other cars they’ve done via their website and photos they brought with. I’m also gonna be taking a ride to check out their facilities sometime this summer when I go on vacation. If I can have it ready by the time I plan on retiring in about two years… Or shortly there after… I’ll be cool with that. Whatever happens with it, I’ll be updating everyone here as it progresses, that’s for sure.
  6. I can only imagine. No need to remind me, though 🥺
  7. Companies repop the rear bumper strip for the ‘71’s for guys like you who clone them… J/K 😂
  8. This is me, admitting the Great Air Cleaner / Filter Debate has emerged the victor…
  9. I honestly envy you guys that have both the know-how and the tools to do all these jobs yourselves. My skills are minimal, although I don’t mind getting my hands dirty as a helper monkey and trying to learn by doing and from others. But the tools I use most often are…
  10. I tend to agree that the CN references the FILTER, not the the air cleaner itself. The sticker verbiage regarding keeping your GM car all GM only bolsters this theory; the sticker was likely placed there strategically to subliminally steer vehicle owners towards buying GM / AC Delco replacement filters. Now… here’s where I’m gonna throw a wrench in the works: Google search the GM part number (6484583) adjacent to the ‘CN’ on the label. 🤔 The plot thickens…
  11. I’m just busting Dennis’s stones. He picks on me incessantly, routinely putting me in headlocks and giving me noogies. So I take the easy shots whenever the opportunities present themselves 😂 Regarding the RESTORED air cleaner I mentioned… that one is for my ‘70 when the time comes to put her back to stock. The pix of the stickers I sent earlier are on my ‘71. Earlier in the thread I sent the fuzzy pix of the 71’s B/S (CN & AU codes present), corroborating what’s reflected on those stickers. My 70’s B/S reflects (mostly) the ‘CN’ and ‘DQ’ in their respective locations. However, this car has neither its original air cleaner nor radiator top plate (I also have one of these ready to go for when she goes back to stock). Confusing? Just a tad.
  12. Do I have to take off my shoes to count on my toes? Cuz if so, I’ll just concede and save those around me the horrors of the funk which emanates from my shoes.
  13. That’s one heavily optioned SS. Must’ve been fun being able to order a new car like that.
  14. Here ya go, Willie. I finally found time to get out to the garage. Pictured are the air cleaner and radiator plate stickers occupying their respective places under hood on my ‘71 SS. For those of you keepin’ score at home: Darren - 1 Dennis - 0
  15. Yeah… I got what I paid for when I downloaded the free Photoshop app 😂
  16. Now I’m totally confused… just checked the sticker on the ‘71. Anyone know what this is all about?
  17. I second what MC1of80 says regarding the control arms and sway bar. Unfortunately (unless I’ve been informed incorrectly), it appears your TH400 originally belonged to a 1978 GM product. I’ve enlarged the pic of your trans tag and included a pic of the one on my ‘70 SS. Not a deal breaker IMHO, but would likely be shunned by the “purists”. If it’s not too late, maybe use this as a bargaining chip to knock a few thousand off the agreed-upon price… especially if it was advertised as all original/numbers matching.
  18. The ‘70 was Van Nuys built The ‘71 was Kansas City * Side note: I bought a correct restored air cleaner for the ‘70 a while back but it still sits in a box as it won’t sit on the aftermarket Quick Fuel carb. I am 100% certain that the sticker on the side has the ‘CN’ on it. At least that’s one less thing to hunt down when it’s time to return her to stock.
  19. Ok Willie, hope this’ll hold ya over til I get home to look at the car. Bob sent me a pic of the B/S and P-O-P when we were negotiating the sale/purchase. I located it in my photos , however it’s quite fuzzy/grainy. But I can definitely make out the ‘CN’ and ‘AU’ in (what appears to be) their respective boxes. See if this lines up with your theory…
  20. PS - I see no “Emission Tune Label” box… but my Build Sheet is missing boxes: 19, 20, 36, 37, 53 & 54. Might one of these missing boxes be where the emission info once was? If so, the mystery continues…
  21. Ok Willie, I’m gonna muddy the waters now that you’ve cleared them all up. Found my “Engine Tune Label” box (# 104) on my 70’s Build Sheet. I don’t think this stands for “Dairy Queen” 😂🤣…
  22. Ok, I misread/misunderstood this. Won’t be able to tell on the ‘70 as it does not have the original air cleaner or radiator cover plate. I’ll check the ‘71 later and report back.
  23. Which box contains the air cleaner sticker? Which one for rad cover? Can’t seem to locate them, but there’s a few boxes missing on my ‘70’s sheet. Box #91 reflects wheel covers 🤔 As far as the ‘71 goes, I only have a real fuzzy picture of that sheet, can’t make out anything, and the actual sheet itself is in a safe deposit box, so can’t be of any help here. Here’s what I got for now…
  24. Hey Willie, My Kansas built ‘71 SS is a ‘CN’. Same for my Van Nuys built ‘70 SS.
  25. I may have mentioned this in the past, but I fell in love with the First Gens in high school. My Dad (a lifelong mechanic) would work on cars on the weekends out of our garage for extra coin to support the family. One of his regulars, an “old” lady (she was to me at the time) had a ‘70… black vinyl over red, 350 / 2 bbl. Whenever she wanted/needed anything done to it, she’d drop it off on Friday afternoon when she left work (4-5 pm) and drop the keys in the mailbox. Dad worked his regular job til 10pm, getting home around 1020ish. This gave me time to take her out after school and beat the s$&t out of it with a buddy or two in tow. It was a “one tire fire”, but I’ll never forget smoking that tire for what seemed like forever just mashing the loud pedal from a stop sign, even while just in Drive. I probably did this 3 or 4 times, but too long of a story to repeat about the one time I knew I was busted; Dad never said a word, just told me enough after the fact that he knew I had taken the car out and to not do it again. Anyway, that was my official introduction to the Monte and there began my fondness for these awesome cars. Was always primarily a Chevy guy… I still love first Gen Camaros (my ‘67 was my first car), had my ‘95 6-speed Z/28 and currently own a ‘94 ZR-1 ‘Vette. I also love Chevelles and Novas, but Monte’s are my fave, the best of both worlds - classy and sporty, while (until kinda recently) staying under the radar in the popularity category. I’ve always said I’d get my classic at some point when time, finances and life permitted. That time arrived recently and I ain’t looked back. The End.
