  1. congrats Greg!! it is a blast to do that huh....I agree with Bill, 116 should be 11.7x pass with a decent 60'.....
  2. I would say the out of the hole is generally dictated by the position of the top ring grove...that would be a good question for the piston manufacturer...

    1970 SS COPO

what I remember about my life in 1970 and what actually happened probably has some divide in it by now (actually this has already been tested )...it's more likely it was a dealer conversion not an actual COPO car. It was a very common event at some of the more high performance dealerships. In SoCal there were several dealerships doing things like this (Dana, Bear Chev, etc) ..... I bought a special order black '72 Monte from the original owner that was a documented 4 speed dealer conversion...he ordered the car and paid the dealer to make the change before he took delivery....it was very cheap to do back then, a new Muncie in the crate was about $200...it was a bench seat car so it didn't even need all the console stuff either...everything they needed was already in the parts department
  4. just to throw my bit in when we built my 509 we used a 6.535 rod with the stock (502) 4" stroke. The theory being this would allow the use of a shorter (lighter) Mahle piston as well as reduce the side loading on the cylinder walls. We did put the pistons 10 thou out of the hole and used a Cometic .051 gasket to get a .041 quench....seems to work okay...

what Mike said...a reality check....not to discourage but keep it real....you want 15" tires just for looks? If that's the case then maybe you wouldn't care how well the suspension worked. It would take a lot of power to get past what a stock suspension car could handle....just food for thought...
  6. use bbc tall boat covers....you can get them at Eddy Marine...I have used them on both cars and no issues.....they have a flat side to clear transom headers which also make them clear a booster and air conditioning box....I run both roller rockers and stud girdles under them...
  7. pull up the instructions for a MSD starter...they talk in great detail about the correct way to align a starter. Since I used their methods I have had zero issues....just a thought...
  8. well you can tell racing is over huh... looks good Mike....1 1/2" open spacer will pick it up...
  9. Greg I was referring to the ET Street radial. The radial version works a little better on a wet road (the groove pattern does move form the center to the edge of the tire) but would still be a bit of an adventure in significant rain conditions. Being a radial it will handle the weight of the car better in normal driving conditions and wears a ton better. The thing with a radial at the track is tire pressure and heat. They are sensitive to both so you have to play with them a bit to find what they like on your car. They don't like to be cold or real heat either, sort of in the middle, most guys will run them between 18 and 22 lbs at the track...probably 25-28 lbs on the street...typical size for the car would probably be a 275x60...there is a new "Pro" version of the tire that is DOT but again not recommended for HWY use (again because of the tread pattern) but they have very superior hook in dry conditions....
  10. they are generally not considered to be the best out there. with the power that Greg has nothing is really going to hook much on the street except from maybe a roll...the only good tire that is street legal AND recommended for HWY use that I know of is the M/T drag racial....the Hoosier QT Pro is a good tire but not recommended for HWY use...but...that doesn't stop most guys from running them...

I just talked to Reggie..he said it never happened.... Sam is correct about the 390 versions, mostly attributed to the better exhaust but pretty much all the ratings at that time were manipulated by @ RPM numbers. You can rate a motor at say 5000 RPM and pick up 100 HP by taking it to 6000....perfect example was when Ford came out with the CobraJet in '68....I bought a Fairlane 500 hardtop with that motor when they first came out and it was rated at 335 @ 5400....it would pull hard way past that, I think I was shifting mine around 6200. Actual HP was well over 400...it was about insurance back then...
  12. you can get ones that will bolt directly to the radiator support to..kinda like this one on the Chevelle...the Monte had one that was just little smaller...
  13. 6".... yeah the BMR ones are very nice...
