  1. Hey Bill, that's sort of the issue, the load rating. They are M/T Sportsman S/R Radials, 24x5.00R15LT....24" tall, 4.5" rim size and 4.5" tread. The problem is that none of the websites or catalogs show load rating so when I got them I got concerned because the rating is real borderline at 900 lbs. The speed rating is fine at 130 mph. In doing some research the load rating is most linked to heat build up and I'm wondering since I'm only going to use them at the track is this a safety issue or not. In looking at several blogs it's kind of all over the place out there with guys running all sorts of stuff inluding VW and some other european metric tires. They don't seem too concerned about load rating and drive them on the street but I don't think that's a good idea (this is the LS2 Camaro nitrous crowd). There are a lot of bias tires out there but very few radials with treads of 5.5 in. or less. Any experience or opinion??? thx...Dave
  2. thanks Ian and Tim...don't have a glass hood but do have..aluminum heads, aluminum rad, aluminum intake, aluminum water pump and Weld DragPro wheels.....it's been so long I can't remember all this stuff....Dave
  3. okay here's the stupid question for the week... Picked up a pair of skinny radials that I want to use for the 1/4 mile only. Here ya go...how critical is the load rating if you're only going to make 5 or 6 passes at the track??? These are right on the bubble for the car if your use gross weight divided by 4...the speed rating is fine...thx...Dave
  4. well there ya go.... ...sorry Rob, I missed the top of the post!!!
  5. Rob, did you try a search? I typed in "driveshaft lenght" and got quite a few threads....Dave
  6. Scott it's a 10" 3500 Maximum Performance. After long discussions with Craig (great guy by the way) we decided that based on the specs for the Chevelle this would be the one. They're custom making it and he says I will hardly notice it on the street but when you nail it it will flash to 3500 (about the start of my torque curve). He has the specs on the Monte and if I like this I'll get one for Patricia's car when it's done with paint. It's also good for transbrake and NOS if you so desire...Dave
  7. don't know if you ever got that converter Sam but I just ordered a Coan today. I'll let you know how it does...Dave

  13. you kidder....no it was great, it's just at the beginning anything written that long scares me...like picking up the instructions to the DVD player.... ....now you have to esplain to me how to use them...
  14. wouldn't it be cool if them bags got Steve into the 11's !!! would probably start another group purchase....great job Scott and Bill, I think I finally understand now....
  15. I don't know Scott, I think I need to take a class first or something... I hope ours runs well enough to get into this problem!!!
  16. without going into a long thing...
  17. there you go, I knew Sam would have the answer.....
  18. I don't know guys, unless you'e runnin' for something other than fun the cool factor of the left lift launch (try and say that 10 times real fast) is pretty awesome. You guys run to friggin' fast....stop it....just stop it now......
  19. Mike I believe the correct method would be to remove the axle and press them out, generally the hammer method is not a good idea. I know it's more work but .....JMO.....you shouldn't have any bent studs, replace them all......Dave
  20. I know Steve, it sounds like a lot but that's what happened. I was running that car every week at the old Lions strip, probably 7-10 runs per day (Sat and Sun) and the minute I put those tires on it changed...go figure....I'm sure it varies with every situation and I don't want to start a debate about my experience. It's just rolling resistance is real but I'm no physics expert.....
  21. Steve......I was asking about the thin front tires because way back when I was running my CobraJet '68 Fairlane I picked up 2-3 tenths by just switching to the narrow front tire. Now I have to get the Chevelle down close to where you are or hang my head in shame!!!! Then there's Monte, we all know Monte needs everything it can get so......I have come down with 1320 fever and I don't think there's any known cure.... it's hard to do a group hug on the net...
  22. Hey Steve, it doesn't sound like you're disageeing at all. That's the same way I feel and use the same method's for those pesky kids. It sounded like Greg did the same. Anyway it's all good.....what do you use on the front at the track??? Dave
  23. Hey Bill (and any others), what kind of skinny front tires are you using?? I have a pair of 4.5/15 drag stars that I want to use for the track but was wondering what kind of skinny radial will work with a proper load rating....thx..Dave
