    Engines

Thanks Sam and Mike, Good news ! he just called and said that the engine is in. He got the right flexplate from the GM dealer from where we got the engine. He said that he needed a "shoe horn" to get it in though It has the tall cast alumimun valve covers that has 427 CHEVROLET on them ,I didn't see it yet but he says it looks like a monster in there. He had to remove the motor mounts from the block and bolted them to the frame towers with the through bolts and slide the engine back between the booster and the A/C evap.then start the bolts in the block . He thinks there's enough clearence between them and won't be a problem. The oil pan fit nice that came on the engine too also the tall fuel pump. The rest should be "a walk in the park " Thanks again for your replies guys. Terry

    Engines

This is for you engine guys, I'm confused about Externaly and internaly balanced sbc engines , the one piece /two piece rear main seals makes a difference I hear. The 427 BB that I'm installing is internaly bal so would a SB flexplate work if it was also internally bal and 14" ,I'm asking this because the flexplate that came on the engine is for a 1991 and newer according to the # and for a 4L60E tranny so my converter won't bolt up.My guy thats doing the swap for me is trying to get the right one but I want to make sure its the one I need. Terry
  10. What are you going for Matt ,stock look or modify ? Terry
  11. Very fine job Shaun,Great Craftsmanship also a Great looking Monte ! Terry
  12. Paul, The manifolds that I bought from Groundup and Ausley's had a flat surface on the right bank for a "Flat Gasket"and for one side of the riser and a recessed area on the bottom for the donut. The riser spacer which I bought had the flat end to fit the top and a recessed area for the donut on the other end. I think that you'll need either the heat riser or the spacer to use the factory down pipes. The riser spacer has the same thickness as the funcional riser but has no insides.Groundup sells them too. I ordered my down pipes from Classic Exhaust, they are made to factory specs and for the riser or spacer,he even flatten them for me where the cross member goes just like the original ones were. $160.00 shipped. www.Classicexhaustinc.com Ph# 440 466-5460 Terry
  13. Hi Paul, I have bought 2 sets of these Fac cast Manifolds from Groundup . One set is on my 70 454 ,I also used the factory down pipes, The second is on the 427 that I have to go in my other 70 Monte and also using the factory down pipes. I don't use the heat riser but Groundup has a spacer that takes place of them. I've had no issues with the 1st and expect none with the one I'm doing now.I only had to grind the bottom for the GM crate enging because of the tall head bolts. If you are using the 402 this would'nt be a problem. They also have the ones for the smog air tubes. Any more info you need let me know. Terry
  14. The hoses came today and they look great. The GM lettering and the prt # look correct as I can see.I'm very pleased and I'm hard to please Also there "Dummy Proof" they have a arrow on them pointing to the Rad end Terry
  15. Hi Ken,I'm facing the same issue,I'm doing the SB BB swap too, The Cast Aluminum covers on my 427 are tall but they are lower at the bottom side and get taller mid ways. Its going to be close from what I'm measuring. Terry
  16. OK thanks,I'll just make the steel line work and keep the BB tall pump on.It looks better anyways Terry
  17. Is there a difference in a BB and a SB fuel pump ? The arm is the same and the bolt holes look the same. I have the BB long pump as stated above, and I want to use the 4pc steel lines ,the one runs to the pump is around 2 inches short and looks like if I had the short pump it would work,It doesn't look like it could be bent to fit the long pump with out a lot of twisting ect.and I think it would still be short. My friend at the garage got me a short pump with the 3 outlets like I need but I believe its for a small block. If I can't find a short BB pump with 3 outlets then I may cut the steel one and add a piece of hose hidden behind the WP. Terry
  18. Beautiful Monte John,I had a triple black with a 402 a few yrs ago . Also that Phantom blue Chevelle in the back ground,is that yours also ?I had one of those 70SS 396 in that color with white stripes and black interior several yrs ago like in 1973 . Bruce,is there any reason why you like that triple black Monte Terry
  19. I just installed a 4 row rad in the Monte with a SB a couple wks ago,it being a BB rad there was a good fit from the hoses that was on . I alway thought the original thermostat housings were all the same,I guess I'll find out Jeff,Glad to hear how nice they are, thats what I'm looking for . Terry
  20. That sounds good Doug,I'm not worring about being very correct but I like to have the GM on them .I'm getting the BB hoses for the engine swap,I think the only difference in sb BBs is lenth. Terry
  21. These are stamped with the correct GM and prt #,GM licensed . 70-72 Monte Carlo Upper/lower 27.95 each.they also have the anti collapse spring in the lowers www.Pacecarjeff.com I just ordered a set,he also has A/C parts and many other interesting things, check the site out.I have never heard of them , has any one here dealt with them ? I'll let you know how they are when they are delivered. Terry
  22. Thanks Stan,I wanted to know because I'm sending some other parts back and was planning on sending the fuel pump,so I'm good to go.My 427 crate engine will be here tomorrow and I'll start putting on all the parts thats needed. Terry
  23. Thanks Sam,that will be great,I like the looks of the long one .I was about to send it back. Terry
  24. I need the part number for a BB fuel pump for my 70 Monte. It has the return port.I ordered a AC Delco but its the long type like for a chevelle.I'll need the short one that won't hit the crossmember. It does'nt have to be a AC Delco # but would like a oem style Any help would be appreciated. Terry
