  3. wow great job It brings back so many good and bad memories of doing my car I had the very same problem with my body mounts and did just what you did. hang in there it will get done and you will spend more them planned if that was even a thought. I remember telling a friend I dont know how I am ever going to get this back together, I did not remember where thing went even from the pics and labeing I did but funny thing, one thing followed another the car went back together and all I had left was the old parts I replaced. But can anyone tell me why I saved some parts I or no one will ever want or use. LOL keep up the good work I finished mine just 2 weeks before the eastern meet in june 11 carsile it was my first trip out of the area made it to and from no issues met a great bunch of fgmc members and now enjoy the car when ever I can, we still had no snow and it was near 60 so I was out crusing sat a week ago. dvae
  4. I have the 8.2 with the cover like in pic #1. I do see what you mean now about the scalloped edges, no I do not have those. I want to change the axle seal's before I put the rear in the car also considering changing the bearings for the axle if a novice can do it. I would just like to do it once now and hopefuly be done for a long time. thanks again
  5. one more question I do have the 8.2 with the shape line on the cover. I wAS PLANNING ON DOING NEW AXLE SEALS are they c clip axles or bolt in. under the pic itsays c clip but hetman above says bot in axles am I now talking about something diffrent??? also in either case do I need to have bearing pressed on and off to change the seals?? are the bearings pressed on the axles or someting diffrent, also if I decide to do the pinion seal, Is it safe to just pull the yoke off and replace the seal then re=torque the nut. sorry but I have never gotten into a rear alwasy just changed out the whole housing. thanks again dave
  6. ok I just checked the one I bought it also looks like a bop I hate to sound foolish but what is bop buick or pontiac ??? this rear came out of a 68 chevelle 4 dr and he showed me all the doc build sheet and protect o plate. I was factory to the car It was also an inline six. thanks
  7. thanks I just got pics from the seller of the inside, and the gears look great and the gear oil even looked clean if you can tell from a pic. he is saving the gear oil for me to run a magnet through. I may just clean it up and bolt it in. I getting a feeling this may have been redone and not run hard since we do know it was only moved from spot to spot for the last five years not road driven I,ll cross my finger until I pick it up next week thanks for the tips I havent had a rear apart in 30 years. same old story sell everything buy a house raise a family. then get back to my first love cars althought it took 10 years to get a monte
  8. Hi I would have to check never really looked, it is the one part on the car that was not touched i think when I bought the brake shoe they listed 2 sizes and I bleieve these are the smaller. that part is not to important at this point I work at autozone and get an employee discount. If I have to buy new drums they are fairly expensive. thanks
  9. Hi it is a stock 10 bolt open. if need be I should be able to get a 2 size u joint . Or are you thinking length is diffrent??? do you know if the axles are bolt in on a 10 bolt posi, I figure I should do the axle seals also thasnks
  10. Hi all I just bought a 10 bolt posi with 3:08 gears ot of a running 68 chevelle. it was a sbc with an auto trans. the posi does work and I am hoping to clean it up nice coat of paint . change fluid and bolt it in. I just wanted a posi for the once and a while burn out. no racing time at all. I am hoping to be able to swith over all my new rear brake parts . I got it drum to drum for 300 and it is also a local pick up no shipping. should I do more while it's out or do I already have too much in it. I have been looking for a year or so and this was a great find price wise for what I have been seeing thanks in advance dave
  11. I am 5'9 but as round as round can be 60" waist I got away with the smaller wheel and tilt column.
  12. I use the stock exhaust manifold gaskets the ones with the foil covering over the gasket material. have them on my truck for 8 yrs now and my van 3 yrs never had a leak with them. I do also check my header bolts each spring to be sure they are still tight
