  1. Love the stance, maybe im crazy but shes looks meaner. less grocery getter and more "Dont try, you will lose". haha
  2. Ive got a working th400 core. I got hooked up with info of a local race trans builder. hopefully gonna talk to him today about doing a beefed up rebuild.
  3. Looks like a good set up. But Im waiting on the final word of how much it improve the stopping power. Tell me its worth it and Im ready to click the check out button and put it on.
  4. Thanks for the info guys, Im def staying with the 400 no matter what. Just a matter of what brand. Ill do some more local research though. See if I can find something better at a local speed shop.
  5. Hey Guys, getting on a bird home tonight and go the go ahead to go shopping from the wife. I'm thinking the B&M street strip trans should do nicely. Opinions? TH400 sitting behind a 468 putting out about 550hp. Also moving shifter the the floor. Thinking B&M as well, Drive when Im cruising and ratchet 1,2, and Drive when I wanna go fast. Thoughts or experience? Thanks Will
  6. Note to self. Not gonna happen, haha. Thanks for the info guys
  7. Im replacing the floor pans in my 71 and I was thinking while I was at it I could extend the rear wells into the trunk a bit to get me a lil extra width back there rubber wise. Nothing extreme. Maybe 6 inches or so would be enough room. My question is how wide can I go before I need to be concerned with snapping an axle or modifying the suspension. Thanks Will
  8. If your willing to spend some time doing the research I did my first rebuild last summer. I got the B&m rebuild kit because it has the best instructions with detailed pictures of every step. Ron Sessions "How to work with and modify the Turbo 400 transmission" helped immensely as well (as was loaned to me by a fellow club member). But its a bit hard to come by these days. I layed out some moving blankets on the floor and went step by step in order. In the end she went back together and runs great. PLus I get to say I rebuilt it myself. Worst case scenario your out 170 for the experience.
  9. I looked at their kits as well and read mixed reviews about missing washers and other small pieces of the like in the kit. Make sure its complete.
  10. If you want cutouts save your 200 bucks. go to jegs and get them for 25 bucks. They open and close with 3 wing nuts. Open em at the track or just leave em open like I did on my SS camaro.
  11. Id pay the shipping if you would let me borrow it for a week to make a photocopy. Im just trying to go into my first tranny rebuild as educated as possible
  12. Found a chevy pattern TH400 for 75. Thanks for the info before I rebuilt a case with the wrong bolt pattern. that w ould pissed me off. haha
  13. Thanks for the input. Got a New TH400 case and Im going with the B&M transkit to do the rebuild myself. My converter is a B&M holeshot with 2400 stall. So she should be fine. Will let you know how it goes.
  14. I havent touched mine yet. Was planning on doing a layout like that to minimize confusion, thanks for the tip. Looks like I got the wrong case from the junkyard. Just 8 bolt holes. Guess im headed back. haha
  15. I think im gonna do the B&M transkit. its only 200. My only concern in my TH400 donor case came from a 70 Olds and the bell housing isnt completely round at the top. It dips between the top 2 bolts. Any idea what that means?
  16. So I think Ive given up on finding the book by Ron Sessions, its retarded to have a bokk that was 20 bucks 5 months ago sell for 300 now. Any body familiar with the GM Turbo 400 rebuild DVD? I looked for that B&M kit. But alot of them state no instructions included.
  17. SO I went to the junk yard and found a TH400 and gutted it to get the case. Now Im thinking about doing the rebuild myself. The Ron sessions book came highly recommended but I cant find a copy. Was thinking of using either a Hughes or B&M rebuild kit. Any thoughts?
  18. Another thought, would it be cheaper to have my current TH400 rebuilt and beefed up?
  19. Hey Guys Shopping around for a new TH400 to go in back of my 468. Got a B&M holeshot 2400 converter. Shes putting out about 550 at the flywheel. Was thinking maybe the B&M street/strip. Looking to stay around $1000. What do you guys reccomend? Thanks
  20. Hey guys, Been gone a while at boot camp. Ready to have my 71 shipped to me but wanted a tune up first because of a tranny fluid leak. They did the rear seal, trans filter and trans pan gasket. But when my father went to pick her up and put her in gear the wheels hop then the motor would stall. Which tells me something happened to my B&M 2400 holeshot. There were no metal shavings in the pan that they told me of when they did the filter. And it was running fine 3 months ago when she was parked. Is it possible the filter and tranny pick up were installed wrong? which then lead to the converter running dry while they were idling during the tune up and now not putting out any stall? I was going to have a friend remove to the tranny line from the radiator and start her to check for pumpiong fluid. What think? Thanks Will
