  1. Thought about doing that too. As mentioned the screws have a way of coming loose after awhile.
  2. well, finally got around to getting rid of my points. I installed a points eliminator kit from Accell (2010). Runs great and start ups are improved. Also changed out the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and changed the oil. It was a nice afternoons days of work. Capped it off with a little grilling and beer with a friend.
  3. I think a plum color Monte would look nice. Will it have a different color top as in a vinyl top - black, would make for a nice combo. JMO.
  4. Went to the junk yard and picked up a (real) horn for the Monty. I had previously purchased one from the local parts store, but it didn't quite sound right
  5. $200.00 plus for just the trunk weather stripping sounds waaay to step for me, maybe a complete car weather stripping kit. $20.00 and some good adhesive should be good enough...
  6. Took the Monte out for cruise down the coastline to a pumpkin patch. Nice day out 80 degrees...

    air cleaner

Hmmmm. Might just have to give a try and see if I can hear it over my duel packs. Or if the sound goes well with the car (looks). I like the idea of being able to switch back and forth to the stock version for shows and such...

Just what I'm I suppose to hear and will any tweaking of the carb be necessary?

Thanks for the explanation. I see that its primarily done with 4 bbl’s, but will it do any good on a mighty 2bbl ? (don’t laugh)

    air cleaner

Hello, this might sound like a dumb question, but I have noticed on a few photos that the air cleaner lid is flipped upside down exposing the air filter. What is the reason for doing this? Just curious. Thanks.
  11. Bruce, I think you're right about them not placing a decal on the air cleaner. However, I placed one on mine (350) I know it's not correct, but i think it makes the engine look complete for some reason. A few weeks ago some guy called me on it (he noticed it right away) at a local show.
  12. Dusted off it off, gonna take to work tomorrow and maybe a cruise-in.
  13. The center cap looks pretty cool. Where did you get them from? Do they they have other colors as well? Thinking of getting a radiator panel soon myself, I think they clean up the front end nicely... By the way nice looking Monte!
  14. Had a leaky heater core, so by-passed it (for now). Will replace it in the near future. Also re-installed the chrome door guards/trim.

    leak insde

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions guys. My gut feeling is telling me to bypass for now. We still have a few more warm months 'till the mornigns start getting chilly, should be able to replace by then. From what I gather the core is not expensive (25.00 - 30.00) guess the cost is all in the labor and time.

Rod, would using the stop leak as you have suggested cause any other problems in the system. What brand do you recommend and how long do you think it would hold? I drive the Monte about once a week or so, mostly local runs.

    leak insde

I think I'm gonna bypass the heater for the time being, seems like that is the quickest way to solve this issue. Bought a fitting for the heater hoses at pep boys and will take care of it tomorrow. I do live in Cali, really no need for a heater, least during the time of year when I will be driving the Monte (currently 71 degrees). Eventually I'm gonna replace the heater core, just to keep things right. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with your thoughts and opinions. Bruce, I'm sure that the pictures you provided will come in handy when I tackle this project down the road.

    leak insde

Bruce, Mine has A/C. Would that make a big difference on how to replace it? It"s also been suggested that I just bypass the heater altogether, this wouldn't hurt or cause other issues will it? Thanks.

Probally won't like the answer, but is this something that can be fixed / replaced without to much of a hassle?

    leak insde

I took the Monte out for a cruise this weekend (hope everyone enjoyed the holiday)and I noticed that my winshied was getting foggy around the vent area and also what appeared to look like "smoke or steam" coming out from the vents on the dash, not much, but visable. Upon returning home I checked the coolant levels and around the engine area for signs of leaks, coolant looked good and no signs around the engine. I then checked inside the car (under dash area) and I noticed some moisture at the bottom of the heater, not much but visable, the carpet was not damp, but did notice a few droplets of water dripping down. I'm asking for help or suggestions on what the problem could be and possible fix. Thank you in advance.
  21. I belive the underside of the hood came black from the factory. I just re-painted mine simi-gloss black and replaced the hood pad. And by the way my car is green as well...
