  2. Quote: Dave, The LS-6 Monte Carlos are not that elusive. I know a guy who knows of three with documentation in the country. 1- LS-6 4spd Bench Beige/Beige/Beige 9k 2- LS-6 4spd Bench Red /Blk /Blk 3- LS-6 4spd Bkts Blk Cherry/ Blk/ Blk Dan if this is true it would be the first that anyone in this club (to my knowledge) would have come to proof that these cars were ever built! I would be greatly interested in seeing the documentation on these cars.
  3. Congrats Hank, I'd like to see pic's of the new 70 you bought. That's the one you were asking about the price right?
  4. Ausley's Ausley's has it as well. Try looking under 72 Chevelle as they are the same. This came up just in time. Mine busted over the summer as well and i was going to make some elaborate machined part but it seems that there isn't too much room in the switch so i may just buy a new one and the radio knobs to match. My question is ... How do you get the knob, or the rod in my case out? I was reading about a button being accessed from the back but can't really get to my car to see under the dash area.
  5. Andrew here are some sites on wheels and alignment terms and FAQ Wheel Terms TireRack FAQ Alignment Terms [This message has been edited by MarchieB (edited 10-12-2003).]
  6. As far as the price it sounds about right. I called Nu-Chrome in Mass. about doing the rear taillight bezels and they quoted me (without seeing the parts) $175 US each. Before shopping around this sounded astronomical but i guess you get what you pay for and no one said the hobby was cheap. MarchieB
  7. here's their site http://www.qualkrom.com/ I'm currious as to the price as well.
  8. Here's a pic i took and The NMCOA meet in Clevland this year. (with this topic in mind) It is of Les & Karen's car i believe. MarchieB
  9. These are the pics. If it was added afterward to the car i cannot tell you. I do know that the Parts Place sells them as a set. My build info lists i believe G84??? and says driver remote and passenger sport mirrors. but my car does not and i was told never had the two mirrors. http://hometown.aol.com/bigchrissuperman/myhomepage/profile.html
  10. Well i have good news and bad news. First what you are talking about is the SPORT MIRROR. It was avaliable in '71 i believe as an option and in '72 as part of the Custom package (driver side) GOOD NEWS: They are avaliable, but very scarce. I've been looking for a while now but haven't seen any for sale on Ebay in that past year or so. I know that The Parts Place (Chicago) has them, but... BAD NEWS: They only sell them as a set (Driver remote & Passenger) for i think aroung $300 - $350 US. They will ONLY sell them as a set (trust. i've asked) Otherwise i have not seen anyone else who has them. Just as a note DO NOT try to sub a '73 and up mirror or a Nova/Chevelle/Etc. mirror as the angles where they sit on the car do not match and the mirror will look very weird ... unless you happen to be a contortionist. I do know for a fact that they do exist. I have pictures! But i believe they were very rarely ordered. If you do happen to find one, or perhaps ... GASP! ... a few of them please let me know marchies402custom@rogers.com Good Luck! MarchieB
  11. Andrew72, are you talking about the 72 sport mirrors? (teardrop shaped and painted) Or just the regular chrome type?

  13. 72MC hopefully this will help ... if not drop me a line a nd i can help you out. MarchieB http://www.firstgenmc.com/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000024.html
  14. Monteguy, as far as the head unit, I bought a head unit with a remote control and i'm going to put it in the glovebox. I'm going to make a custom carpet covered box for it so that i don't have to touch or destroy the original AM radio in the dash!
  15. Are you talking about the white reverse lights in the bumper or your the red tail lights that come on when the car is in drive and the headlights are on. I you are talking about the red I would try changing the bulbs for the couple bucks b/c i know on newer cars that the regular tail lights can burn out before the break lights even though they are the same bulb. I had this on my 98 Malibu and thought at the time that it was weired, but it worked! [This message has been edited by MarchieB (edited 06-26-2003).]
  16. David I have a '72 Custom, is this the moulding you are talking about? MarchieB
  17. Hampster i'm good my are in great condition. If you do however come across any info on thier placement please forward that to me Thanks MarchieB
  18. The problem is and correct me if I'm wrong dion but you are looking for original option code info not vin decode which will tell you where it was built. The problem is that can't be determined form the Vin # and GM US cannot provide this info either. MarchieB

  20. As Jerry mentioned the package will have all the info for the 72 model year. BUT will not have info for your specific car, unless it was built in CANADA (Oshawa, Ontario) It could be possible as alot of the cars built in Oshawa were for US import. The 7th digit in the vin should be a 1 for Canadian plant. If it is a letter it was built in the US. MachieB
  21. Ok 1.38.0.BB4spd, now I have a better understanding. If the VIN # on the engine doesn't match the dash VIN # then it gets harder. As Daryl stated the engine code wasn't added to the VIN # untill '72. Also contacting GM won't help either, unless your car was bulit in good ole CANADA. (7th digit in VIN needs to be a 1 not a letter) Gm USA did not keep records of each specific car and will only send you a general package for the year of production. GM Oshawa, CANADA did and can give owners copies with info of their actual car. Also when you say Big Block there are two the 402, LS3, 330 hp Turbo-Jet 400 V-8 engine, and the 454. Now if you were told it can original with a BB and it was a 454 then it would have to be an SS. Check this page to see if you have any of the 454 options ... It could be possible. http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/ss454.htm Otherwise I don't know (but i'm positive there are many here who do) as to how to tell if your engine is a BB. There are casting numbers on the engine ... not sure where or what the numbers are. Maybe someone else here can enlighten, MarchieB
  22. Ok I'm kind of confused what exactly are you trying to decode? You want to know if the engine in the car is the original factory engine? [This message has been edited by MarchieB (edited 01-18-2003).]
  23. JJ the best way would be to find the VIN Stamping on the engine block. Here's a pic from a thread that was on the board last week. It will show you where to look. It is harder to see if the entire engine is together (i belive the alternator? is in the way) However it is visable, just have a GOOD flashlight and alot of paper towels. Mine was covered in about 1/2 of 30 grime that took the appraiser who found it about a 1/2 hour to get to. The cars vin # was stamped by hand during assembly but as this one is, could be removed if the block was decked. There are also castings on the block but that would just verify that the time line for the engine is correct for your car. (engine wasn't made after the car for example) But if you find the stamp its pretty much a sure thing ... but beware it is possible to have the VIN # restamped for the right amount of money. Another great way is to find an original Build Sheet in the car (seats are common) that will tell you EVERYTHIG about the car.
