  1. If you email the VIN # to these guys they can look it up and tell you if the car is in their database. NOTE : The have all the Oshawa πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ built cars but as well they have any American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ built cars that were originally sold at a Canadian dealership.
  2. These are the guys to contact to get a vehicle package for any Canadian built cars. www.vintagevehicleservices.com
  3. I'm not sure if any Monte Carlos came from factory with any stickers on the top of the air cleaners. Also it would have been marketed as, and is technically a LS3 - 400 Turbo Jet. The 402 moniker is only a nickname given to the engine referring to it's actual 402.2 CI displacement. So the correct sticker (if any) would have been "400 Turbo Jet" There is full documentation on the site where it's being auctioned (at the end of the craigslist ad) https://www.clasiq.com/auction/1970-chevrolet-monte-carlo/ and it appears to be a genuine factory '70 400 - 4 speed
  4. I believe that it could also be the same as the '72 Custom "NK2" option code wheel if it is a non-tilt column as seen on the bottom of this page - FGMC '72 Custom The 4 spoke may have been installed if it was a tilt column similar to the '72
  5. I don't want to hijak Jimmy's thread but I think that the idea is that he is going to buy a NEW trans (350th) from Summit/Jegs to go with a new crate engine (GM 350 / 330hp) and he is looking to see what other people would recomend or have had good results with as far as quality and proformance.
  6. I still remeber the argument i had with the guy at the local Chevy dealership when i went to get a cap, rotor, plugs and wires for a tuneup. "They NEVER put a 402 in a Monte" and he insisted that my motor wasn't original. I employ the nod a walk method too ... it's usually a waste of time trying to correct them as they don't usually want to change thier minds.
  7. Does anyone have a pic of an original hood insulation clip on their car? I beleive they were square. I also wanted to know how big they are 1.5" x 1.5" or 2"x2" ? Thanks Marcello
  8. The car either had to be built in Canada (Oshawa, Ontario Plant) or sold originally at a Canadian dealership (regardless of where it was built) Basically if your car was processed by GM Canada then they will have record for it.

    SS 454 LS6

I’m not sure totally (my memory is a bit choppy) but this is how it goes. A member here swore that a friend of his has two of them and that they were factory LS6's. Our basic response as a group was "Show us the MONEY (build sheet) to prove it" Leo Konik was given a contact number and spoke with the person on behalf of the club and if I remember they were either GM executive cars that were special ordered or some type of COPO cars again special ordered. The person didn't want/like a lot of attention and this is as far as it went. I'm not sure if Leo ever saw the build sheets though? Now this is what I remember ... it could be wrong ... I was thinking about this the other day and wrote for you what I generally remember. The best person to answer this would be Leo though. MarchieB
  10. Ok i have a question for the '72 Custom owners (of which i am one) Which of the two centre caps on these covers do you have? If you could also include if you know if they are original to your car. Thanks #1 Flat or #2 with raised rim I have the flat #1's (pics are of mine) i believe they are original to the car as i am the 3rd owner and the 2nd owner had the car from 1975 - 2003. They were in his garage but couldn't remember where they had come from, and he had rally's on the car when i bought it.
  11. Here is where I bought my books. gregsonline.com MCO sells the set for $77 and it includes a new owners manual and plastic case. musclecarsonly Just as a note the elctrical wiring diagrans are included in one of the books, can't remember which one exactly so you don't need to buy them seperatley.
  12. Yes Hooter Quote: information for Canadian produced or Canadian sold GM vehicles, regardless of production location Click on the link i provided above. Aaron i think the Phone # for the Canadian link that you posted is old and not correct any longer
  13. Kevin, sorry to here that you are stepping down. I have only been here for a year or two and the club has made significant progress in that thme. I can only imagine what the club was like in the begining with a handful of members. You have done an excellent job. I know for one that i would never have purchased my Monte last year if it wasn't for the club and having somewhere to attain information and a helping hand I know that Pete, if he chooses, will make a great Pres. One comment; now as far as voting ... we have to make sure we don't get caught up in the whole chad's and dimples episode of a few years back. My I suggest the pinecone/birch bark method (my fellow canucks may understand this one already) And one question; Kevin what's the clubs pension plan like?
  14. GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Service Just remember your car had to have been originally sold in Canada. Or built at the Oshawa plant (1 for plant code in VIN)
  15. Quote: leo has a 4 spoke sports wheel for a 70 monte if you want to get it $40 plus shipping and its yours just let him know. Billie he's talking about a steering wheel ...
  16. Billie, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Maybe you should post the name of the town wher your car is so that everyone else in the club can stay far, far away from it .... seems to be hexed!!!
  17. i bought the sound proofing kit for the Monte and it was basically like tar paper (not sure if that is the right name) Really sticky and a real PITA to get off the floor boards when it's time to do it. I have a '72 Custom and they came with "extra sound deadener" on th e floor boards and noticed that under some of the major areas the was also some of the regular sound deadener material like the other areas of the car (a 1/2" think or so fiber like material batting) I'm not sure where you can get this from in bulk. If anyone knows please let me know!
  18. 1. El Camino 2. James M. Roche, Chairman of Board/CEO, Edward N. Cole, GM President 3. Not sure about the "pontoon-bulge" fender lines
  19. i would venture to guess that that is a 71 hood. The 71 ornament was the longest. What is the distance between the 1st and 4th holes? As well the 71 had the spring loaded Chevrolet medalion emblem that was located towards the front portion, probably at the 2nd, larger hole that you mentioned.
  20. here is more info Custom Monte Where was your car built? (info is in the VIN)
  21. Wes the one's from GM Canada aren't free. I got mine around a year ago for $45 Can. The US one's are free b/c they are just a photocopied package fore each year. The ones form GM Canada they look at the records and reprint all the bulid dated, shipping date, dealer info, and all original options for the dpecific car. It's as close to a build sheet as you can get barring an actual one inside the car. Here is the web page showing the costs Vintage Vehicle Services
  22. i posted this once but couldn't find it in the search function Turbo-Fire vs. Turbo-Jet Here is some more info on the engine options (not sure about it's accuracy tho) Production Numbers I have had issues with my '72 402 BB. Like the time i went to the GM DEALERSHIP and had the guy at the counter, "who has been working here for years" who swore up and down that the 402 in my car wasn't original b/c "Chevy never put a 402 in the Monte Carlo's"
  23. Hey Lloyd i thought you were going back to school for computer work .... not Used Car Sales LOL
  24. i'm pretty sure (as i believed otherwise at one point) that #2 is the whell that came with the SS's. But hopefully someone else will confirm that. Also does anyone know if there were any other factory avaliable steering wheels other than the 4 that i posted?
  25. there are 4 possible styles that i know of that could be correct depending on the year and model of monte. A pic of your steering wheel would help to identify it. Here are the 4 that i know of 1= 70 standard 2= 70 /71 SS 3= 71/72 stamdard 4= 72 Sport/Custom not sure how correct this is tho
