  1. There’s a few FGMCC members coming to this one.
  2. You might have a good point regarding the three colours. I’ve been looking at blue Chevelles with white tops that have these rims for reference. Maybe the standard grey these came in is the way to go. They don’t stand out too much that way.
  3. I’ve seen them on a few first gen Montes and I like the look.
  4. I like the rallys too but since I own two Montes (actually three currently) I thought it might be nice to have something different on one of them. If I only had one Monte it would definitely have rallys.
  5. GM came very close to offering these for 1970. Here’s a GM photo of a 1970 SS454. I speculate that these were cancelled fairly late and is why the SS454 photo in the 1970 brochure is a hub cap bench seat car with SS454 emblems on it. I think the below photo was intended for the brochure but had to do something different on short notice after the wheels were cancelled. Funny enough though they had an artist colour and retouch the photo with rally wheels and 71 SS trim for the 1971 brochure.
  6. I have a set of Z28 rims to put on my 70 Monte. They will be going out for sandblasting before I paint them but wondering the best colour of the rim to go with my car. Right now they are a darker silver than rally wheels. Here’s a photo of the wheel next to the car to get an idea of the look. I know I want some sort of silver or grey but trying to figure out if I should go lighter like argent/silver on rallys or if it should be darker. Note this is not the tire I will be running. I will have raised white letter 255/60 tires on all 4. maybe dark metallic grey like this
  7. There’s a couple members that will likely be attending from the Portland area. People start making those kind of plans maybe 6 months out. Portland to Summerland can be done in one day.
  8. Once I start getting the list of members together for the Western Meet I can let you know who is coming from Oregon. I look forward to meeting you! If you have any questions about the meet don’t hesitate to contact me.
  9. Today was rally wheel painting day. These are for the copper 71. New 255/60 Cooper Cobras will be mounted next week. Cleaned and scuffed up Primer Painted
  10. Great info! It turns out the right one of the 12 bolt and both the L and R for the 10 bolt are the same. It is just the left one for the 12 bolt that is unique to allow clearance.
  11. Mine has the plate on the driver's side but not on the passenger side.
  12. I have noticed that the left side upper rear control arm has a plate welded on it. I found a replacement control arm for the right side but it does not have that plate. Were there two different styles of upper control arms?
  13. My right upper control arm was completely messed up and had to replace it. Luckily I know a guy 15 minutes from home that had one for me!
  14. Welcome! That’s one of my favourite 1970 Monte colours.
  15. They don’t offer any proof of it being an SS in their ad. I haven’t seen anything though that says it is not. I think it likely is an SS as I see several correct items on the car but certainly needs to be verified.
  16. Looks like a nice car but some attention to detail is needed. Do they really think people will believe it only has 2,700 miles?
  17. I’m glad it didn’t happen during my trip to Utah in June.
  18. Yes, I’ll get all rear bushings checked and replace what is necessary.
  19. I had the 71 SS out a couple weeks ago for a short drive. Part way through I could hear a strange squeak/chirp noise but the car seemed OK. I thought maybe exhaust hangar or something but could not replicate the noise when parked. I discovered the power steering pulley was a little loose and fixed that thinking that’s what made the noise. I took the car out again on Thursday for a short run and I could hear the squeak/chirp again coming from under the car during driving. When I left for home the rear end was all over the place. I took it easy getting home. I finally had time to pull the wheel off today and take a look. The upper bushing on the passenger side of the rear end is gone. I’ve never had that happen before and really had very little warning. I’ll get it into the shop and get all new rear bushings replaced.
  20. I had a little fun with wheels. I needed to put the Cooper Cobras from the 71 onto the 72 for the buyer of the 72. He will be driving it home long distance and the 23 year-old yellow letter Goodyears that were on the 72 were too risky for a road trip. I put the original set of wheels and bias ply tires that came with the 72 on the 71 temporarily while I have new tires mounted on the rallys for the 71. What a sleeper! Just for fun I measured the height of the letters on the various brands I had as I was curious about the difference in size. Goodyear 7/8" tall Cooper 7/8" tall BFG 13/16" tall I always thought the Coopers had much bigger letters than BFG but very little difference. I guess the main reason the Coopers appear much bigger is due to BFG using lower case letters.

    Help Needed

Good to see you Vince! I posted mine on Hemmings with not a lot of response. I have mine on Facebook Marketplace and shared it to as many groups as I could which got the word out. The only issue with Facebook is the large number of messages that turn into nothing. There are some serious people that contacted me as a result of Facebook though.
  22. That car has some fantastic custom work. So much time and attention to detail.
